EBER - Hillsboro played error-free softball for the first time this season, but in the end, the Lady Indians were unable to move runners and round the bases, falling to South Central Ohio League foe Miami Trace 3-1.
Miami Trace scored all of their runs in the bottom of the fifth inning.
The three-run inning began with a single to center field by Morris, followed with an RBI double by Olivia Mick, tying the game at 1-1.
The lone HHS run, the game's first run, came in the top of the fourth inning when Jenni Middleton singled to take first. She scored on a double to center field by Kaelee Sexton.
"I thought we played a good game," HHS head coach Krista George said. "We played good defensively, and we hit the ball well. Our problem was we left too many runners on base. If we get them around, it is a different outcome."
But the Lady Panthers continued to reach the bases in the fifth, with Taylor Stockwell doubling down the third base line to plate Mick.
With one out, Tiarra Perkins hit a ground out to second base to score Stockwell for what turned out to be the final run of the game.
Hillsboro also had hits from A.J. Sanders, Deatley and Mallori Ferguson.
The Lady Panthers also had hits from Perkins (double) in the third and singles from Carly Strayer and Grooms, both in the second inning.
Mick gained the win for Miami Trace. She pitched seven innings, allowing six hits, one run (earned), and no walks. Mick finished with four strikeouts.
Kayla Rosselott was charged with the loss. Rosselott went six innings in the circle, allowing three runs (three earned) on six hits and two strikeouts.
In their first meeting this season, MT defeated HHS 12-1 in five innings.
The loss drops HHS to 4-16 overall, 1-10 in the SCOL.
HHS will face Washington on Friday, in a make-up game, at 5 p.m. in Hillsboro.
On Saturday, HHS will play at Washington in their sectional tournament game.
