DODSONVILLE - Lynchburg-Clay junior Ryan Doss joined an elite group Thursday as he tossed a no-hitter for the Mustangs in a 12-0 season opening win against the Ripley Blue Jays at LCHS.
Doss, in just five innings, struck out 12 batters, while walking one in the Southern Hills League win.
The LC pitcher not only was near-perfect from the mound but produced from the plate, as he finished 1-for-2 with two RBIs.
"Ryan was getting up in the count well by putting the ball into the zone," LC head coach Aric Fiscus said. "This was a tremendous outing by Ryan. He had some great defensive help behind him."
The Mustangs (1-0) scored six runs in the bottom of the second with Dalton Cox, Cody Roush, Austin Fawley, Kris Moberly, Dallas Puckett and Wes Pierson all crossing home plate.
In the bottom of the third LC tacked on two more runs with Cox and Pierson scoring to put LC up eight runs.
The bottom of the fourth saw the Mustangs put four more runs on the scoreboard with Fawley, Moberly, Pierson and Skaggs all rounding the bases and touching home plate.
Cox and Fawley each went 3-for-3. Cox had a triple, along with two runs and two RBIs. Fawley finished at the plate with three singles and two runs.
Aaron Skaggs went 1-for-1 with a double, while adding two RBIs and one run.
Roush finished 1-for-3 with one RBI and one run. Puckett, Doss and Pierson all went 1-for-2. Puckett tallied one run and one RBI. Pierson scored three times, with one RBI.
"We had a pretty well-rounded effort," Fiscus said. "We hit all through the lineup. This is the kind of outing you want to start the season with."
LC will play again on Friday, April 2 as they will host Eastern Pike at noon at LCHS in a non-league game.
