Buck scores 8 in UMass debut

McClain graduate Shelby Buck made her collegiate debut Wednesday night for UMass Boston in a season opening 56-43 victory over Eastern Nazarene, in Quincy, Mass.

Buck was 3-of-9 from the floor, including 2-of-5 from beyond the arc for eight points in 27 minutes on the floor for the Beacons.

Her first basket, a 3-pointer, came with 17:19 left in the first half.

The freshman also had two offensive rebounds, two assists and one steal.

The win put UMass at 1-0 overall.

Overall, as a team, UMass was 20-of-59 from the field and 6-of-20 in 3-point shooting. From the free-throw line, UMass was 10-of-15, with 40 total rebounds.

Last season, Buck was a starter for the Lady Tigers team, which reached the district finals.

UMass plays in the Little East Conference, which is celebrating its 25th Anniversary, and the Eastern College Athletic Conference (East) in NCAA Division III.[[In-content Ad]]
