BAINBRIDGE - It is time for the Paint Valley Bearcats to hit the road in week six.
After playing their past four games on their home field in Bainbridge, the Bearcats will play their second road game of the season, as they will face Scioto Valley Conference foe Adena Friday night.
Both the Bearcats and Warriors are 2-3 overall, 1-1 in SVC play. Last week Adena defeated Southeastern 22-19. PV fell to Westfall 35-24.
The other win by the Warriors this season came against Mechanicsburg during week three by a score of 24-21.
Adena hasn't changed much, if anything, this season as they will look toward their traditional running game, which they are known for.
"Adena will run the ball, run some more, then go into play action," Paint
Valley head coach Pete Hollon said. "They have really improved the past few
weeks."
Hollon spoke high on quarterback Reed Hutchinson of Adena.
"He is an outstanding player for a sophomore," he said. "He will be
impressive in the next couple years."
Another player the Warriors look to is Mike Bryant, with the PV coach saying PV like to pass the ball most of the time to Bryant.
The defense of the Warriors has added size this season compared to previous years.
"Their front four or five guys control the line of scrimmage," Hollon said. "They are the typical Adena team. Nothing flashy and coach Paul Thomas
does a good job there."
Adena uses multiple fronts in their defensive scheme, with a 50 front for a majority of the game. At times the Warriors will change into a 4-3 look.
Hollon said one word describes what his team has to do to be successful
in the second half of the season consistent.
"Its real simple,² he said. ³We are good enough to beat any team remaining on our schedule, but we have not been consistent. Until we play four complete quarters, we will struggle.
"Defensively we just have to get better, plain and simple. When you average 25.5 points a game on offense, you shouldn't be 2-3," Hollon said.
"We are improving at tackling, but it all goes back to assignment football. When you give up plays of 50 and 60 yards, which was the case against Westfall, it's an assignment issue."
With the past four games being at home, the Bearcats welcome a change in the schedule, with them jumping on a bus and going to Adena.
"We are tickled to death to play on the road this week," Hollon said.
"We want to break routine. We lost three of the four home games and we haven't lost that many home game in the past four years combined.
"We are looking to change the momentum and we are in need of a good,
solid win."
