BAINBRIDGE- This Friday will be the final time the Paint Valley Bearcats wear their home jerseys with Week 8 being Senior Night, along with their 50 year celebration of Paint Valley football, as they host rival Huntington in a Scioto Valley Conference showdown.
The Bearcats (1-3, 2-5) are trying to bounce back from a 26-20 loss to Piketon last week. The Huntsmen stand winless on the season at 0-7 (0-4 SVC), but Paint Valley coach Pete Hollon said they have some good, skill players.
"They are big up front and have a hard-nosed quarterback (Scotty Perkins)," Hollon said. "They like to run the ball and have the players to do it. They are a running team."
The pro-style offense of Huntington uses tailback Mark Mitchell and fullback Dylan Gragg to produce yardage for their offense.
Mitchell is a big tailback at 6-3, 230 pounds. Gragg weighs in at 210 pounds, as Hollon described the fullback as solid. Gragg is also the top linebacker for Huntington.
The defense of the Huntsmen consists of a 4-3 formation.
"They live and die by the blitz. If they get penetration their blitzes will work. They have two big defensive ends and two good defensive tackles," Hollon said. "They will pin their ears back and come after you. They want to create havoc on the opposing offense and have had success in doing so with their personnel.
"We know we can't take them lightly. Friday is a special night with the past players and coaches returning, so we know we have to play well."
To play well Hollon stated his team needs to continue to win the line of scrimmage like they did against Piketon last week, and play a solid four quarters of football.
"We have to develop the passing game and we haven't found the consistency to do that on offense," Hollon said. "Brennen Dove is improving each week and we will keep seeing the improvement from him at quarterback. He has progressed leaps and bounds with grasping the offense.
"We are seven weeks into the season and our coaching staff doesn't give the entire offense a passing grade. We just have to work on it in our final three games."[[In-content Ad]]
