CHILLICOTHE — After having a competitive first half where Paint Valley trailed by seven points at 13-6, things, again, tail-spinned for the Bearcats as they allowed 25 unanswered points in the second half in a 38-6 loss against the Southeastern Panthers, Friday at SEHS.

The loss puts the Bearcat team at 0-4 overall and 0-1 in the Scioto Valley Conference. Southeastern is now 4-0 overall and 1-0 in the SVC.

Paint Valley scored once in the game, during the first quarter, after the Panthers scored on a 21-yard touchdown run by Christian Colburn with 8:27 left in the opening half.

The PV score came with a 2-yard TD run, with 6:21 left in the first, by senior Brenan Dove. The drive by Paint Valley totaled 12 plays for 72 yards. The longest play of the drive occurred when junior quarterback Eli Barker ran the ball 44 yards to the SE 8-yard line to help set up the lone Bearcat trip to the end zone. Barker left the game after he was tackled on the run and did not return.

SE (4-0) finished the first half with a 17-yard run to pay dirt by Stephen Hall for a 13-6 lead.

Once the second half began, the outlook of the game completely changed for Paint Valley as they allowed the aforementioned 25 unanswered points.

The first six points of the 25 happened quickly with Hall taking the ball 98 yards on the second half opening kickoff for a touchdown. The PAT was no good for a 19-6 Panther lead.

Michael Brown helped the Panthers capitalized over a turnover by Paint Valley with a 38 yard reception from Colburn with 9:21 left in the third. Paint Valley turned the ball over two plays following the kickoff return.

In the fourth quarter, the Panthers scored two more times.

Their first fourth-quarter score came with 8:12 left in the game when Brown caught his second TD off a pass from Colburn, this time going 59 yards for the touchdown.

The final TD of the game came with 4:56 as Hall ran the ball 75 yards for a touchdown. The final two PAT's were no good.

For the Bearcats, the battle in the trenches was a pivotal point, once again, as Hollon said his team was dominated up front for the fourth straight week.

"We just got beat up in the trenches again," PV head coach Pete Hollon said. "There isn't a fix for that, and I'm surprised because that is where we have returned a lot of veteran experience. It's not just on offense, it is happening on defense too."

PV was led by freshman Mark Clifford with 41 yards rushing on eight carries. Dove had 12 rushes for 31 yards. Freshman Nathan Yoakum had five carries for 30 yards.

On defense, junior Hayden Lambert led PV with seven tackles (two for loss) and a forced fumble.

"Hayden is coming along for us," Hollon said. "We need his motor running for four quarters. He has a ton of potential and just need to fine tune some things."

Senior Garett Tyree kicked for an average of 47.2, kicking the opening kickoff to the 2-yard line.

The Bearcats (0-4) will travel to face the Westfall Mustangs for their third straight road game after starting the season with two consecutive games at home.
