CHILLICOTHE — With a combined 21 points scored in the second and third quarters, the Paint Valley Bearcats and Piketon Redstreaks took part in a Scioto Valley Conference defensive battle.

In the end, it was Piketon who defended their home field with a 14-7 win over the visiting Bearcats Friday night.

"This was a physical and hard-hitting game," PV head coach Pete Hollon said. "Both defenses played well, and it basically was their ball control against our mistakes."

The loss drops Paint Valley to 3-5 overall as they have lost three consecutive games to Westfall, Adena and Piketon. In the SVC, PV is 1-4 with the lone league win coming against Southeastern in Week 5.

On Friday, it was Piketon (3-2, 4-4) who scored first with Jeremy Farmer passing to Coleston Walters for a touchdown with 12 seconds left in the second quarter. The PAT gave Piketon a 7-0 halftime lead.

In the first quarter, the Redstreaks' first drive, one where they didn't score, went 16 plays and nearly 9 minutes. PV had the ball for a total of 13 plays in the first half.

The Bearcats reached the end zone in the third quarter with 8:57 remaining when Mark Clifford running three yards for the score. Tyler Murray converted the PAT for a 7-7 score.

The tied score didn't last long as the Redstreaks scored with 5:48 left in the third with Stephen Royster running 37 yards for the touchdown.

In the final quarter, PV had opportunities to reach the end zone on three different occasions but were unable to convert any of those chances into points.

Clifford finished the game with 71 yards rushing on 14 carries. Quarterback Eli Barker had 68 yards rushing on 15 carries.

"We had a pretty solid effort defensively," Hollon said.

The Bearcats return home for one final game at George Knisley Field this season, as they will host the 0-8 Huntington Huntsmen Friday night. The game will also be the Bearcats' Senior Night.
