Back-to-back wins for Lady Tigers

LONDON — For the second consecutive day, the McClain Lady Tigers left a road game with a win. On Wednesday, the Lady Tigers outlasted the London Lady Red Raiders 45-39 for their 11th win of the season.
MHS (6-3, 11-5) are still near the top of the SCOL standings, but they still have a lot of work ahead of them, along with needing help for rivals if they want to go any further in the standings.
The Lady Tigers, with three losses, trail the Clinton-Massie Lady Falcons by three games in the SCOL as CM is 9-0 with three games remaining. MHS has league games with Madison-Plains, CM and Miami Trace. CM has league games with MT, MHS and Hillsboro. Washington also has three league losses with two SCOL games remaining against MP and London.
This was McClain's second win in as many days, as they defeated Zane Trace on Tuesday.
As for MHS on Wednesday, they led 8-6 after the first quarter and led the second frame at 16-11 for a halftime lead of 24-17.
In the third, MHS outscored LHS 13-10 and in the fourth, LHS led 12-8.
The big moment for the Lady Red Raiders (1-10, 3-16) came when senior Kayla Crager scored her 1,000th point of her career with under 2:00 left in the fourth frame. She currently has 1,001 points. Crager ended the game as the leading scorer, finishing with a game-high 18 points.
Also for LHS, Alicia Hiram scored 13 points.
For the victorious Lady Tigers, Sammy Rooks led with 14 points, followed by Kate Crabtree and Jenna Perie with eight points each. Shania Massie added seven points, and Brittany Mullikin scored six. Also scoring for MHS was Kaitlyn Faulconer with two points.
MHS had four 3-pointers with Rooks sinking two, and Massie and Perie each knocking down one. Making 3-pointers for LHS were Hiram, Mia Zawodny and two by Crager.
The Lady Tigers shot 17-of-50 from the field (34 percent), while LHS was 14-of-40 (35 percent). From the free-throw line, MHS was 7-of-12 (68 percent), and LHS was 7-of-10 (70 percent).

In JV play, MHS defeated LHS 27-22.
