Babington, R-MC swimming team finish second in ODAC Championships

McClain High School graduate Tracilyn Babington led Randolph-Macon College's swimming team to a second-place finish in the three-day 2011 ODAC Championships, held Feb. 11-13 in Christiansburg, Va.
Babington, a freshman from Hillsboro, was named Rookie of the Year at the meet.
According to the R-MC Athletics website, Babington and three other women set a school record and touched first with a time of 1:39.11 for the 200-yard freestyle relay on the first day of the event. The same four managed to break the school record by one hundredth of a second (4:02.01) in the 400-yard medley relay for a second-place finish for the first day. As a member of the 200-yard medley relay team, Babington earned a second-place honor with a time of 1:52.17. In the afternoon, Babington claimed the conference title for the event finals in the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 1:06.60.
Day two of the ODAC championships saw Babington finish in first place for the 100 breaststroke, beating the conference record and coming in at an NCAA B cut time of 1:06.05 in the preliminary round.
On the third day of the championships, Babington touched first in the 200-yard breaststroke with an NCAA B cut time of 2:24.21, along with an NCAA B cut and conference record time in the 100-yard breaststroke.
Babington and the rest of the 400-yard freestyle relay also took first place with an ODAC record time of 3:36.63.
The R-MC team, which finished with 725 points, came in second to Washington & Lee University, who won with 927 points.
