Wildcats lose recent games to CNE, Manchester
Wednesday (Jan. 31) was a tough game for the Whiteoak Wildcats as they lost a road non-conference contest to the Clermont Northeastern Rockets, 53-40.
The first quarter put the Wildcats behind the Rockets as they trailed 15-1 when the opening quarter was complete.
CNS also won the second quarter with another 15-point output, but this time WHS added 11 points to their side of the scoreboard for a 30-12 halftime deficit for Whiteoak.
In the third frame, the Rockets scored 16 points, and Whiteoak totaled 10 points in the frame. The fourth quarter saw Whiteoak break out for 18 points, and CNE scored seven points.
Sawyer Blair led Whiteoak with 15 points. Blair finished with two 3-pointers, two two-point baskets and he went 5-of-7 from the free-throw line. Blair also added six rebounds to his final totals.
Zander Roades totaled nine points, four assists, three rebounds and three steals.
Brady Brandenburg finished the game with five points, seven rebounds, two assists and one steal.
Other final scoring for WHS included Zach Igo (four), Weston Blair (three), Keegan Eyre (two), Jonah Michael (one) and Aiden Crowe (one).
The Wildcats’ team totals included 10 two-point baskets, two 3-pointers, a 14-of-21 performance from the free-throw line, 26 rebounds, 10 assists, eight steals and one block. WHS committed 18 turnovers.
On Friday night (Feb. 2), the Wildcats lost a road Southern Hills Athletic Conference game to the host Manchester Greyhounds, 58-40.
The first half for Manchester included a 16-point first quarter and eight-point second frame, while Whiteoak’s first half included eight points in the first quarter and seven points in the second for a halftime score of 30-15 in favor of Manchester.
Manchester in the second half had two 14 point quarters, and Whiteoak added 13 points in the third, followed by 12 points in the fourth frame.
Brady Brandenburg led the Wildcats with 14 points, making five shots from the floor, and he was 4-of-6 from the free-throw line.
Aiden Crowe and Sawyer Blair each scored seven points for Whiteoak, and teammate Zander Roades finished with four points.
The rest of Whiteoak’s scoring were two points each scored by Jackson Tedford, Dakota Clift, Christian Hale and Tyler Wessner.
Connor Darnell led MHS with 16 points, followed by Drew Kennedy with 12 points and Parker Hayslip with 10 points.
The loss sends Whiteoak to an overall record of 5-13 and a SHAC record of 5-6.
Manchester moved to 12-8 following the win, and in the SHAC they are 6-6.
