Wildcats lose non-conference game at East Clinton

The Whiteoak Wildcats lost a non-conference game at East Clinton High School to the EC Astros by a 59-54 score, Tuesday, Jan. 20. 

The Wildcats trailed 22-9 after the first frame but clawed their way back following a 16-8 second quarter where they outscored ECHS by eight points. 

ECHS led 30-25 at halftime, then built an eight-point lead as they outscored WHS 19-16 in the third quarter. In the fourth frame, Whiteoak scored 13 points and East Clinton had 10 points. 

For ECHS, Peyton Lilly led with 20 points (seven rebounds, four assists, two steals, one block), and with 19 points was Xander Lake, who also had six rebounds, two assists and one steal. 

The Astros also had final scoring totals from Aidan Warner (8), Kaiden Roth (6) and Carson Barton (6). 

Team totals for the Astros were 18 two-point baskets, three 3-pointers (Barton 2, Lilly 1), and they were 14-of-18 from the free-throw line. ECHS also had 30 rebounds (13 offensive), 12 assists, seven steals and one block. 

For Whiteoak, they were led by Lucas Pollard, as the freshman totaled 20 points for the Wildcats. 

Christopher Wessner was next with an 11-point game, and Brady Brandenburg ended the game with eight points.

Sawyer Blair, Jason Gaskins and Evan Richmond each scored five points for Whiteoak. 

The non-conference loss sent WHS to an overall record of 6-8 on the season. 

East Clinton improved to 11-5 overall.
