Peebles’ second frame sets tone in Whiteoak road loss

The Whiteoak Wildcats traveled to Adams County Friday evening (Jan. 23) where they faced the host Peebles Indians, dropping the Southern Hills Athletic Conference game by an 84-66 score.
The SHAC contest between the two Division II conference teams saw the first-place Indians lead WHS 19-13 after the completion of the first quarter, but things got away from the Wildcats in the second frame.
Whiteoak’s six-point deficit turned into them trailing 49-30 at halftime as Peebles outscored the Wildcats 30-17 in the second quarter.
Whiteoak came out of the locker room in the third frame and won the quarter at 16-15, and in the fourth quarter each team scored 20 points.
The Wildcats had four players in double figures, where it was Christopher Wessner leading the Wildcats in the scoring column with 17 points by making three two-point field goals, three 3-pointers, and he was 2-of-2 in his free-throw attempts. Wessner also added six rebounds (three offensive).
Jason Gaskins followed with 12 points, as he sank two 3-pointers and three two-point baskets, and he also had six rebounds (four offensive) and one blocked shot.
Whiteoak also had 12 points by Evan Richmond, who was 6-of-6 from the field with his two-point baskets, and he added four rebounds, four assists, one steal and one block.
Brady Brandenburg finished with 11 points by making four two-pointers and one 3-pointer, plus he collected three rebounds and also had a blocked shot.
The Wildcats also had scoring from Sawyer Blair with eight points (two 3-pointers, one two-point basket), plus he added five rebounds, two assists, two steals and one block. Scoring three points was Lucas Pollard, who made a 3-pointer and added five rebounds and seven assists. WHS also had Conner Dickey finishing with three points with a 3-pointer.
Whiteoak ended the game with totals of 17 two-point baskets, 10 3-pointers (Pollard 1, Blair 2, Gaskins 2, Wessner 3, Brandenburg 1, Dickey 1),, 29 rebounds (12 offensive), 14 assists, three steals and four blocked shots.
The loss sends Whiteoak to an overall record of 7-11 with a SHAC Div. II record of 3-7. Peebles improves to 12-2 overall and 8-2 in the SHAC Div. II standings.
The next scheduled game for Whiteoak is a SHAC contest on Tuesday, Jan. 27 at home against the West Union Dragons (1-7, 1-11).
