Lady ’Cats have losses against Georgetown and Peebles

With a new roster due to OHSAA transfer rules, the Whiteoak Lady Wildcats took to the court with a new starting lineup as they lost two recent games against Georgetown and Peebles on Wednesday and Thursday evenings. 

On Wednesday (Jan. 21), the Whiteoak Lady Wildcats lost to the Georgetown Lady G-Men 51-27 at Georgetown High School in non-conference action. 

WHS with their new starting lineup trailed by only four points after the first quarter at 9-5 with Jillian Lucas scoring all five of Whiteoak’s points. The Lady ’Cats were outscored 11-6 in the second, as all six of Whiteoak’s points came off three baskets made by Libby Webster for a halftime score of 20-11 in favor of Georgetown. 

The third quarter is where the game got away from WHS with the Lady G-Men scoring 17 points, while WHS had three points in the frame with those coming via two free throws made by Lucas and one free-throw conversion from Ella Howard. 

WHS played much closer in the fourth quarter with Georgetown scoring 14 points and Whiteoak putting 13 points on their side of the scoreboard. Whiteoak’s fourth frame consisted of two 3-pointers from Savannah Ferguson, a free throw made by Matalynn Conrad, two free throws made by Lucas, and Taelyn Shriver scored four points in the frame with a two-pointer and two made free throws. 

Whiteoak was led in the scoring column by Lucas with nine points as she finished with one two-pointer, one 3-pointer and she was 4-of-6 from the free-throw line. 

Webster and Ferguson each totaled six points as Webster made three two-point baskets from the field, and Ferguson had the aforementioned two 3-pointers in the fourth frame. Shriver totaled four points for Whiteoak, and having one point each were Conrad and Howard. 

For the game, Whiteoak totaled five two-point baskets, three 3-pointers and as a team they were 8-of-14 from the free-throw line. 

Georgetown was led in scoring by Morgan Preston with 16 points as she sank two two-point baskets and four 3-pointers with those coming in the second, third and fourth quarters. Livia Tracy finished with 11 points by making four two-point shots and going 3-of-4 from the free-throw line. 

Other final scoring totals for the Lady G-Men included: Chloe Inlow (2), Allie Tolle (8), Lila Loudon (3), Gabrielle Ernst (2), Lydia Johnson (5), and Taylor Zeller (4). 

Georgetown totals were 14 two-point baskets, five 3-pointers, and they were 8-of-15 from the free-throw line.

The following evening on Thursday, Jan. 22, the Lady ’Cats traveled to Peebles High School for a Southern Hills Athletic Conference game where they were defeated by the host Peebles Lady Indians, 45-39. 

In the six-point loss for Whiteoak, they trailed by just two points after the opening quarter at 12-10 as they had eight points in the opening frame from Ella Howard off two 3-pointers and a two-point basket. The first frame also saw Jillian Lucas make a two-point bucket. 

Each team scored eight points in the second quarter for a halftime score that saw Peebles in front at 20-18. Whiteoak’s second frame consisted of five points by Lucas on a 3-pointer and two-pointer, while Savannah Ferguson also sank a 3-pointer for the Lady ’Cats. 

The third quarter saw Peebles increase their lead by eight more points for a 40-30 score after three complete quarters. PHS won the quarter at 20-12, as Whiteoak’s 12 points were from seven scored by Lucas off two two-point baskets, and she was 3-of-3 from the free-throw line in the quarter. 

Also in the third, Jada Combs for WHS connected with a free-throw shot, and making one two-point bucket each in the frame were Howard and Libby Webster. 

Whiteoak won the fourth quarter at 9-5 as Webster made two baskets from the field for four points, Howard connected with a two-point basket, and Lucas scored three points with a two-pointer and a made free throw. 

Whiteoak finished the game led in the scoring column by Lucas with 17 points as the sophomore totaled five two-point field goals, one 3-pointer and she was 4-of-5 from the free-throw line. 

Howard totaled 12 points for WHS against Peebles as she made three two-pointers and two 3-pointers. 

Whiteoak also had six points from Webster off three two-point baskets, while teammate Ferguson had three points from a 3-pointer. Finishing with one point was Combs. 

Peebles was led in scoring by Kendall Myers with 21 points, as she made six two-pointers and was 9-of-12 in her free-throw attempts. 

PHS also had 13 points from Alyssa Smalley off five two-point buckets and one 3-pointer. The remainder of Peebles’ scoring was Amyn Carroll (2), Katie Myers (2), Ella Richards (2) and Paysen Shively (5). 
Peebles’ team totals were 15 two-point baskets, one 3-pointer and they were 12-of-19 from the free-throw line. Whiteoak’s team totals were 11 two-pointers, four 3-pointers and they went 5-of-11 in their free-throw shooting. 

The loss moves WHS to 7-6 overall and 5-4 in Division II of the SHAC standings. Peebles improves to 6-9 overall and 5-5 in the SHAC Div. II standings.
