Mustangs fall to Eastern in road game

Tuesday (Jan. 20), the Lynchburg-Clay Mustangs lost a Southern Hills Athletic Conference game to the host Eastern Warriors, 46-25 in their Division I Southern Hills Athletic Conference contest. 

Eastern was strong early on when they had a 16-point first quarter, while the Mustangs scored six points. Eastern in the second quarter outscored Lynchburg-Clay 12-4, taking a halftime lead of 28-10. 

LCHS in the second half scored eight points in the third, then they scored seven points in the fourth quarter. Eastern in the second half had 10 points in the third, and then they added eight points in the fourth frame. 


Lynchburg-Clay had six players finish in the scoring column with Elam Faust leading with seven points (one rebound, one steal), and next was Trevor Niehaus with six points (six rebounds, one steal). 

Finishing with four points each were Denver Clinton (five rebounds, one steal) and Quin Wells (one rebound, one assist). 

Having two points each in the game for LCHS were Tanner Roberts (four rebounds, two steals, three blocks) and Caden Boone. 

Linkin Barnett totaled three rebounds and one assist, while Harley Lewis had one block. 

Lynchburg-Clay’s totals were nine two-pointers, one 3-pointer (Faust), and they were 4-of-6 from the free-throw line. LCHS also had 20 rebounds (four offensive), two assists, five steals and four blocks. 

Chase Pinkerton led Eastern with 12 points (six rebounds, four assists, three steals, one block), and next was Matthew Dick with 10 points (four rebounds, two blocks). 

The rest of Eastern’s scoring included: Jaiden Florence (9), Carter Cluxton (8), Braxton Vance (4) and Kayne Dotson (3). The Warriors also added 20 two-point baskets, two 3-pointers (Dotson, Florence), and they didn’t attempt a free throw, plus had 38 rebounds (nine offensive), nine assists, eight steals and four blocks. 

The loss sent Lynchburg-Clay to an overall record of 6-9 with a 3-6 mark in the SHAC Div. I standings. Following the win, EHS moved their record to 9-0 in the SHAC Div. I standings and 13-1 overall.
