Mustangs earn 14-run shutout win over Southeastern

Playing on Wednesday (April 2), the Lynchburg-Clay Mustangs took care of business on the baseball diamond by defending their home field and defeating the Southeastern Panthers, 14-0 in five innings.
The non-conference game for the Mustangs began with a bottom of the first inning where they scored three runs for the 3-0 lead. Next was a five-run second inning, and a six-run third inning for Lynchburg-Clay put them ahead 14-0 after three innings were complete.
LCHS finished the game with nine hits and committed one error, while SEHS totaled three hits and committed three errors.
One-third of Lynchburg-Clay’s hits were off the bat of Cole Wells, with Wells going 3-for-4 with two runs and five RBI. The game saw Wells have two home runs.
Six Lynchburg-Clay batters each had one hit, as leadoff batter Josiah Burns was 1-for-2 with one run and one walk. Cody Bell finished 1-for-2 with three runs.
Tanner Roberts was 1-for-4 with a double, one run and one RBI. Teammate Christian Flowers ended the day 1-for-2 with two runs and two RBI.
LCHS also had Braedon West go 1-for-1 with a home run, two runs and two RBI. Quin Wells finished 1-for-2 and two RBI.
Trevor Niehaus scored two runs and walked three times. Cody Bell and Quin Wells were both hit by a pitch. Collecting steals for the Mustangs were Niehaus (three), Burns, Bell, West and Roberts.
Cody Wells was the winning pitcher, going four innings on the mound, allowing no runs on two hits and no walks with six strikeouts on 55 pitches, 38 for strikes. Roberts pitched one inning, allowing no runs on one hit and no walks with two strikeouts on 20 pitches, 13 for strikes.
The win moves the Mustangs to 3-1 overall.
