Lynchburg-Clay soccer sweeps North Adams; Mustangs win at Ironton St. Joseph in recent match

Wednesday, Aug. 26 was a big night full of winning in Southern Hills Athletic Conference play for the Lynchburg-Clay Mustangs, with both the boys and girls teams defeating the host North Adams Green Devils in important conference contests. 

The Lady Mustangs defeated the North Adams Lady Green Devils 3-1 at NAHS. Lynchburg-Clay had three players reach the scoring column as sophomore Everleigh Barry, senior Savannah Bell, and junior Lily Ferguson each scored a goal. 

Gaining assists for LCHS were Ferguson and freshman Lacey Warner. At keeper for Lynchburg-Clay were sophomore Kendra Doss and sophomore Scarlett McElwee (five saves). 

The match saw Lynchburg-Clay have 18 shots. 

North Adams’ goal was scored by sophomore Marnie Toole. At keeper for NAHS was junior Bella Gray with nine saves. 

The win in the SHAC opener for the Lady Mustangs improves their overall record to 1-2-1 overall with a conference record of 1-0-0. 

Next for the Lynchburg-Clay is their first home match of the ‘26 season as they are scheduled to face the Eastern Lady Warriors (3-0-1) at 4:30 p.m. at LCHS in a SHAC match. 

In the boys match on Wednesday at NAHS, the Lynchburg-Clay Mustangs defeated the Green Devils 4-1. 

Goals for the Mustangs included two by freshman Colton Short, and one each scored by senior Aric Slack and senior Alexander VanFleet. Assists were credited to sophomore Jason Butler and junior Harley Lewis. 

At keeper for the Mustangs was junior Tanner Roberts as he finished with five saves. 

Also the Mustangs earned a recent 4-2 victory over Ironton St. Joseph on Saturday, Aug. 22 for a non-conference road win. 

Goals scored by the Mustangs included two by freshman Colton Short; and one each by senior Levi Fields and junior Quin Wells. Assists went to senior Aric Slack with two and senior Alexander VanFleet with one. 

At goal for the Mustangs was junior Tanner Roberts with nine saves.
