Other than a first quarter on Friday night (Jan. 23) where the Lynchburg-Clay Mustangs were outscored by seven points, the final three frames saw them either be tied in quarter scoring, lead quarter scoring or be within two points of winning the frame.

LCHS battled against the visiting North Adams Green Devils at Lynchburg-Clay High School where they fell in Southern Hills Athletic Conference action 45-37, but in that loss there was a scoring differential of just a single point in the final three frames, but unfortunately there was the first frame that hurt the Mustangs the most.

That infamous first quarter saw the Green Devils outscore Lynchburg-Clay 17-10, but the Mustangs battled back with a 9-8 second quarter where it left the halftime score at 25-19 in favor of the visiting North Adams squad.

In the second half, LCHS was outscored 10-8 in the third, and each team scored 10 points in the fourth quarter.

Tanner Roberts finished with 10 points to lead LCHS in the scoring column as he made five two-point baskets, plus along with his scoring the sophomore added six rebounds (three offensive), one assist and one block.

Scoring nine points for the Mustangs was Quin Wells with two 3-pointers, one two-point field goal and he was 1-of-2 from the free-throw line. The sophomore also collected four rebounds, three assists and one steal.

Scoring six points each were Elam Faust (two 3-pointers), Trevor Niehaus (three two-pointers), and Harley Lewis (three two-pointers). Faust added six rebounds, five assists, three steals and one block. Niehaus collected six rebounds and two steals. LCHS also had Lewis with one rebound and one assist.

Caden Boone totaled four rebounds, while teammate Linkin Barnett finished with three rebounds.

Lynchburg-Clay team totals were 12 two-point baskets, four 3-pointers (Faust 2, Wells 2), 30 rebounds (nine offensive), 10 assists, six steals and two blocks.

For the Green Devils, Jesse Kennedy led with 19 points, finishing with three 3-pointers and three two-point buckets and he was 4-of-6 from the free-throw line. Carson Davis followed with seven points, 10 rebounds, one assist and one steal.

Scoring six points each for NAHS were Thaddeus Moore and Collin Tolle, while the rest of their final scoring included Dalton Pence (four points) and Preston Call (three points).

Team totals for the Green Devils were 11 two-point field goals, four 3-pointers (Kennedy 3, Pence 1), 27 rebounds (10 offensive), nine assists, eight steals and three blocks.

Lynchburg-Clay now has an overall record of 6-10 with a SHAC Division I record of 3-7 for third place, while North Adams improves to 10-5 overall and 6-4 in the SHAC Div. I standings (second place).

LCHS is scheduled to play a non-conference game Tuesday, Jan. 27 on the road at Paint Valley against the Bearcats at PVHS.
