Lady Mustangs fall to Eastern in SHAC match; LC, EHS boys soccer tie

DODSONVILLE — The Lynchburg-Clay girls team lost in Southern Hills Athletic Conference action on Monday evening to the visiting Eastern Lady Warriors by a 4-2 score. In boys action, the Mustangs and Warriors tied at 0-0.
In the girls match, Eastern's first goal of the SHAC contest was off the foot of freshman Kaitlyn Pfeffer with the defense away from the box allowing the ball to go to the back of the net for the 1-0 lead with 26:15 left in the opening half.
Pfeffer scored Eastern's second goal with 17:53 left in the first half as she beat the defense of LCHS.
Leading 2-0, the Lady Warriors added another goal for a three-goal advantage when junior Autumn Fahrian also beat the defense of Lynchburg-Clay with 9:41 on the first half clock for the goal and a 3-0 lead.
That 3-0 score stood at halftime, but it was Lynchburg-Clay getting on the scoreboard early in the second half with junior Lily Ferguson scoring a goal off a play that began with an indirect kick with 35:08 left in regulation.
LCHS made it a one-goal deficit when senior Savannah Bell scored a goal with 2:45 remaining in regulation.
Eastern scored one final goal with 1:06 on the clock as senior Makena Corbin made it the final 4-2 score. Assists for Eastern were credited to Corbin (two), freshman Charlotte Grimes and junior Addalynn Perkins.
LCHS goalies sophomore Kendra Doss and sophomore Scarlett McElwee each had seven saves. Eastern keeper junior Chloe Hauck also finished with seven saves.
Eastern now sits with a SHAC record of 1-0-0 with an overall record of 5-0-1.
LCHS is now 1-1-0 in the SHAC and 1-3-1 overall.
In the boys match, the LCHS Mustangs and Eastern Warriors finished in a scoreless tie after 80 minutes of action.
Eastern keeper Chase Pinkerton totaled eight saves in the match. Junior Tanner Roberts was at goal for LCHS in the scoreless tie.
The Mustangs are now 1-0-1 in the SHAC and 3-2-1 overall. Eastern stands at 1-0-2 in the SHAC and 3-1-2 overall.
