Lady Mustangs end season as district runners-up; fall in 4 sets to South Webster

Playing at Wellston High School in the Division VI SE District Finals against the South Webster Lady Jeeps, the Lynchburg-Clay Lady Mustangs had their season ended, finishing as district runners-up to cap off a very successful 2025 season.
The No. 4 seeded Lady Mustangs won set three at 25-16, but lost set one at 25-6, set two at 25-15 and set four at 25-12 against the No. 1 seeded Lady Jeeps.
For the Lady Mustangs (19-6), that totaled 26 kills in the SE District Final contest, plus they had team totals that included two aces, one block, 70 digs and 23 assists.
Leading in assists was Ava McLaughlin with 19, as teammates Jules Vesey (two), Joslyn Rockey (one) and Addy Carraher (one) also were credited with assists.
The team leader in digs on Saturday was Melany Stephenson with 16, while teammate Rockey totaled 14 digs, Avery Shope had 12 digs and Vesey ended the match with 11 digs. There was also McLaughlin with six digs, and teammates with digs also included: Carraher (one), Bre Rosselott (one), Halle Greene (four) and Kylie O’Connor (five).
Mattie Magee collected the lone block made by the Lady Mustangs, and the two aces for Lynchburg-Clay went to Stephenson. In the kills category, the leaders for LCHS were O’Connor and Magee with seven each. Totaling six kills was Carraher, and the rest of the kills were by McLaughlin (two), Rosselott (one), Rockey (one) and Greene (two).
SWHS (15-9) as a team totaled 38 kills (15 by Avary Claxton), 17 aces (10 by Addi Claxton), 63 digs (21 by Addi Claxton) and 38 assists (30 by Sidney Kevlar).
For the season, the Lady Mustangs finished 19-6 overall, and they were second place in the Division I Standings of the Southern Hills Athletic Conference with a record of 11-2.
Seniors for the Lady Mustangs are Ava McLaughlin, Joslyn Rockey, Mattie Magee and Avery Shope.
