Lady Mustangs earn wins against East Clinton and Ripley
Playing back-to-back nights, the Lynchburg-Clay Lady Mustangs varsity volleyball team earned two wins on Thursday and Friday with victories over the East Clinton Lady Astros and the Ripley Lady Blue Jays.
The Thursday (Aug. 27) non-conference home match win against East Clinton saw LCHS win in three consecutive sets by scores of 25-19, 25-18 and 25-23.
In the win over the Lady Astros, Lynchburg-Clay finished with team totals that consisted of 43 kills, 41 assists, 10 aces, 62 digs and two blocks.
LC senior Halle Greene led the home team with 15 kills, plus she added one assist, one ace and seven digs. LC junior Bre Rosselott finished the contest with 13 kills, two digs and two blocks.
Also for LCHS, senior Addy Carraher led with 34 assists, plus she added three kills and seven digs. Junior Hydee Green had four kills, one assist, one ace and four digs.
Senior Kylie O’Connor had eight kills, six aces and 13 digs in the non-conference win for the Lady Mustangs. Another LC senior, Melany Stephenson, finished with three assists, one ace and a team-high 16 digs.
Freshman Becca McLaughlin ended the match with an assist. Senior Jules Vesey finished with one ace and 14 digs. LC junior Charlee Wildey collected an assist in the win.
The following evening on Friday (Aug. 28), Lynchburg-Clay won their Southern Hills Athletic Conference match against the visiting Ripley Lady Blue Jays by scores of 25-15, 25-9 and 25-15.
The match saw the Lady Mustangs collect team totals of 41 kills, 40 assists, 11 aces, 46 digs and one block.
Carraher finished the match for LCHS with two kills, a team-best 34 assists, a team-best five aces and 11 digs.
Green had one ace and a dig in the win. Teammate Greene totaled a team-best 18 kills, plus she added an assist, an ace and five digs.
McLaughlin ended the match with two kills and three assists. O’Connor tallied 11 kills, three aces and eight digs for the Lady Mustangs. Rosselott had final totals of six kills, one dig and the lone block made by LCHS.
Stephenson collected one kill, two assists, and a team-best 15 digs. Vesey finished the match with one ace and five digs. Wildey ended with one kill.
Lynchburg-Clay volleyball now has an overall record of 5-1 with a SHAC Div. I record of 3-0.
Next for LCHS is a home SHAC match on Tuesday, Sept. 1 against the Fayetteville Lady Rockets with a varsity start of around 6:15 p.m
