3-run third inning leads to Lady Mustangs win over Eastern

A three-run third inning built by the Lynchburg-Clay Lady Mustangs gave them a road Southern Hills Athletic Conference win on Tuesday evening (April 8), as they defeated the host Eastern Lady Warriors, 3-1 for the conference win. 

All of LC’s runs were scored in the third inning, while Eastern scored their lone run in the bottom of the seventh inning. Eastern was held to two hits and they committed one error. Lynchburg-Clay totaled four hits and had four errors in the win. 

Caitlyn Collins of Lynchburg-Clay was 2-for-4 with one run, as one of her hits was a double.

Sophia Michael finished 1-for-3 with one RBI, as her hit was also a double. Aubrey Roberts finished 1-for-3, as she hit a double. Jazmine Brown, Noel Barnhill, and Sadie Kuipers all were hit by a pitch, and Kuipers also walked once and had one steal. 

Scoring runs for LCHS were Collins, Brown and Audrey Barry. 

Barnhill was the winning pitcher, finishing the game with seven innings pitched, while allowing one run (unearned) on two hits and no walks, with 12 strikeouts as she threw 99 pitches, 68 for strikes.
