21-point 1st quarter leads to Lynchburg-Clay win over Eastern

Scoring 21 points in the opening quarter Monday night, the Lynchburg-Clay Lady Mustangs gained a valuable Southern Hills Athletic Conference win over the visiting Eastern Lady Warriors, defeating their conference rival, 53-24.

The win at LCHS by the Lady Mustangs not only included them outscoring EHS 21-6 in the first quarter, but the Lady Mustangs had a 14-7 second frame for a halftime lead of 35-13.

LCHS had another strong eight minutes of play, winning the third frame at 15-7, for a 50-20 lead after three quarters. The fourth quarter saw Eastern score four points and Lynchburg-Clay score three points, with LCHS securing a 29-point win.

Three Lady Mustangs had double-figure scoring efforts, with Addison West leading the way in the scoring column with 16 points. She shot 50 percent from the field, making six two-point baskets and a 3-pointer, plus she was 1-of-2 from the free-throw line. West also added five rebounds, three assists and a steal.

Jade Massey totaled 13 points in the SHAC win, with the senior making three two-point baskets, two 3-pointers and a free throw. She also added five rebounds, three assists, four steals and had a block.

Macy Etienne totaled 10 points for Lynchburg-Clay. Etienne made two 3-pointers, two two-point baskets and collected four rebounds, five assists and two steals, plus a block.

Madison McMullen totaled eight points, plus grabbed a team-high seven rebounds. She also had four assists, one steal and two blocks.

Ella Barry finished with four points, three rebounds and a steal. Rounding out the scoring for LCHS was Allie Waits with two points.

Other stats for LCHS included Joslyn Rockey (one assist), Avery Shope (one rebound), Noel Barnhill (one rebound), Savannah Bell (one rebound, one steal), Matalyn Magee (two rebounds) and Ava McLaughlin (one rebound).

As a team, LCHS shot 37.3 percent from the field, made five 3-pointers and was 4-of-9 from the free-throw line. LCHS also had the following team totals: 30 rebounds, 16 assists, 10 steals, four blocks and committed 10 turnovers.

Eastern was led by Emma Litzinger and Tabby Schumacher with six points each.

LCHS is now in first place in the SHAC Division I standings with a 3-0 record in conference games. The Lady Mustangs overall are 4-2 thus far this season. Eastern falls to 0-2 in the SHAC and 1-3 overall.
