11-run inning leads to Mustangs win over West Union

All was great for the Lynchburg-Clay Mustangs on Thursday evening, with the team defending their home diamond in Southern Hills Athletic Conference play by a score of 23-0 against the visiting West Union Dragons. 

LCHS scored runs in all four innings they were at the plate in the five-inning run-rule win, starting with a six-run first inning. From there, they scored five runs in the second and 11 runs in the bottom of the third. The fourth inning saw the Mustangs score one last run for the big SHAC victory. 

In all for LCHS, they totaled 15 hits, nine walks, and they committed no errors. West Union had two hits and five errors. 

Ten Lynchburg-Clay players combined for their 15 hits on Thursday (April 17), with Kristian Beachy going 3-for-4 with one run and three RBI, as the freshman had two doubles. 

Christian Flowers finished the day at 2-for-2 with a home run, plus the senior had four runs, five RBI and three walks. 

Also with two hits in the SHAC win was Tanner Roberts with his day ending at 2-for-2 with two runs, two RBI and one walk. Trevor Niehaus went 2-for-3, as he also added three runs, two RBI and one of the hits by the sophomore was a double. 

Asher Faust finished 1-for-1 with two runs, one RBI and two walks. Josiah Burns was 1-for-4 with two runs and a walk, while teammate Braedon West ended his day at 1-for-1 with two runs. 

Cole Wells of LCHS was 1-for-1 with four runs, a SAC fly, five RBI and he forced three walks. Cody Bell also had a hit as he was 1-for-2 with one run, a SAC fly, four RBI and a walk. 

Elam Faust was 1-for-2, and he collected one run and one RBI in the win. Quin Wells finished the day with one run, a SAC fly and one RBI. Caden Faust collected an RBI and walked once.

Steals were credited to Elam Faust (two), Cole Wells (two), Burns (two), Asher Faust, West, Niehaus and Quin Wells (two). 

Flowers was the winning pitcher, finishing the day with five innings pitched, allowing no runs on two hits and two walks, with nine strikeouts. He threw a total of 75 pitches, 48 for strikes. 

LC now stands at 8-2 overall.
