Whiteoak senior Landen Eyre kicked off the 2024 season with a first-place finish at the OHSAA Early Bird Preseason Invitational at Fortress Obetz, finishing with the fastest time out of 368 runners in the Boys 5K Team Run.
Eyre won the meet with a time of 16:05.33, over four seconds faster than the runner-up Chance Basilone of Lexington (16:09.98).
Eyre was last year’s OHSAA Division III state cross-country runner-up. This spring, he was the state 3200-meter champion, as well as third place in the state 1600-meter run at the 2024 State Track and Field Championships.
In another impressive finish for a Highland County athlete, Lynchburg-Clay’s Kyler Fite was 29th in the same event, finishing with a time of 17:38.41. Also for Whiteoak in the Boys 5K Team Run, Keegan Eyre raced to a 21:10.45 finish, good for 221st place.
On the girls side, Whiteoak had two runners compete in the 5K Run event. Aubrey Swafford finished 217th with a time of 28:11.65. Teammate Addy Hauke was 243rd, recording a time of 29:11.42.
