Lady Mustangs defeat rival Fairfield for district semifinal win in 3 sets

On Tuesday (Oct. 21), the Division VI SE District Semifinal round saw the Lynchburg-Clay Lady Mustangs sweep the Fairfield Lady Lions in three sets to advance to the district final game. 

In their win at Wellston High School, the No. 4 seeded Lady Mustangs won in three straight sets over No. 5 seeded Fairfield (16-8) by scores of 25-21, 25-16 and 25-22. 

The win by LCHS (19-5) saw them total 38 kills, 11 aces, 87 digs, and 36 assists as a team. Fairfield totaled 20 kills, eight aces, three blocks, 64 digs and 20 assists as a team. 

In kills, it was LC’s Kylie O’Connor leading the Lady Mustangs with 11, followed by Joslyn Rockey with eight, Addy Carraher (seven), Bre Rosselott (seven) and Halle Greene (five). 

The aces leader was Jules Vesey with four, while Avery Shope and Melany Stephenson each had three. Also with an ace was Ava McLaughlin with one. 

Rockey was the leader in digs with 20, followed by Shope with 17. Carraher finished with 12, and Stephenson totaled 10. Others with digs were Ava McLaughlin (seven), Mattie Magee (one), Greene (seven), O’Connor (six) and Vesey (seven). 

McLaughlin led LCHS with 31 assists, while Shope and Greene each had one. 

As for Fairfield, their kills leader was Remi Moon with 13, and she was followed by Jorja May with six and Bailey Jones with one. 

Moon also led Fairfield with seven aces, while Paisley Stahlhut had one. 

Fairfield totaled three blocks, with Jones collecting two and Addison Cannon totaling one. 

The Lady Lions also saw Alyssa Bales finish with 16 digs, followed by Ally Maynard with 14, Moon with 11 and Stahlhut with 10. Others with digs were May (eight), Cannon (one), Jones (three) and Emma Ayers (one). 

The Fairfield assists leader was Stahlhut with 17, followed by Maynard with three. Seniors for Fairfield are Jaeden Drury and Kaitlyn Eidenier.  

Next for the Lady Mustangs is a district final match on Saturday, Oct. 25 at Wellston High School against the No. 1 seeded South Webster Lady Jeeps (14-9) at noon. This postseason, SWHS has defeated Portsmouth West in a three-set match.
