Six Highland County baseball players selected to the 2025 Prep Baseball Report All-State team

Six Highland County baseball players were recently selected to the 2025 Prep Baseball Report All-State team.

The players for Highland County were from Lynchburg-Clay: Cole Wells, Josiah Burns, Braedon West and Quin Wells, all in Division V. In Division VII, the three Highland County players chosen were Fairfield’s Zane Matthews and Corbin Willey and Whiteoak’s Zander Roades. 

Lynchburg-Clay senior Cole Wells was selected to the Prep Baseball Report’s Elite 25 team as a “September Call-Up,” plus he was named first-team All-State as a two-way player in Division V for the PBR, as the publication selected Wells as their Div. V Position Player of the Year. Wells was also a member of the Regional Team for Team Southwest as a two-way player. 

Wells in 2025 led the Mustangs to the Division V OHSAA State Semifinals, pitching 58.2 innings and finishing with a 10-1 record. He had an 0.83 ERA, with a 0.86 WHIP. 

Wells in ‘25 also collected 106 strikeouts, 17 walks, and at the plate he batted .526 with a .654 on-base percentage. Wells finished the year with six doubles, one triple, five home runs, 25 runs, 38 RBI and 25 walks, plus he was hit by a pitch on five occasions and he stole 10 bases. 

The Mustangs were also represented on the PBR All-State Div. V list by senior Josiah Burns (2nd Team) as an outfielder, Braedon West (2nd Team) at pitcher and freshman Quin Wells (Honorable Mention) as a two-way player. 

Burns in ‘25 batted .441 (36 hits) with a .586 OBP, with eight doubles, one home run, 33 runs, 17 RBI, 26 walks and 20 steals. 

West in his ‘25 season pitched 61 innings where he was 6-1 with a 1.72 ERA. West also had a 0.95 WHIP, 72 strikeouts and he walked just 16 batters. 

Quin Wells in his first varsity season batted .421 (32 hits) with a .484 OBP, as he had five doubles, three triples, 27 runs, 41 RBI, 13 walks and 18 steals. On the mound, Quin Wells pitched 16.1 innings, with a 1-1 record with a 0.85 ERA, a 1.46 WHIP, 15 strikeouts and seven walks. 

In Div. VII, Fairfield senior Zane Matthews was voted onto the All-State first-team as an infielder. Matthews at the plate his senior season had 33 hits, a .550 batting average, and a .667 OBP. Matthews’ numbers included seven doubles, two triples, one home run, 28 runs, 20 RBI, 10 walks, 11 hits by pitches and 22 steals. 

Corbin Willey in his senior season at Fairfield was voted by PBR to their second team in Division VII as an infielder. Willey’s senior season consisted of 27 hits, a .415 BA, a .513 OBP, with five doubles, one triple, three home runs, 21 runs, 34 RBI, eight walks, six HBP and 13 steals. 

Whiteoak senior Zander Roades was voted to the Div. VII PBR All-State second team as a two-way player. Roades in ‘25 had 20 hits, a .333 BA, with seven doubles, two triples, 25 runs, 17 RBI, and 25 steals. As a pitcher his senior season, Roades totaled 44 innings pitched, where he was 5-2 with a 1.91 ERA. Roades also had a 1.09 WHIP, 81 strikeouts and 33 walks.
