Oberrecht tosses no-hitter vs. Eastern; HHS falls to Jackson, defeats Fayetteville

The Hillsboro Indians gained a non-conference victory on Thursday, April 30 after they defeated the host Eastern Warriors by a 13-3 score in six innings.

Hillsboro not only scored 13 runs, but collected 10 hits, while pitcher Brayden Oberrecht was credited with a no-hitter in his six innings on the mound. 

The Indians saw Oberrecht pitch six innings where he allowed no hits with no earned runs and two walks. He finished the game with seven strikeouts on 86 pitches, 53 for strikes. 

The Indians scored two runs in each of the first two innings for a 4-0 lead, then added another two runs in the top of the fourth for a six-run advantage. 

Eastern answered with two runs in the bottom of the fourth, but HHS gained one of the runs back with a run crossing the plate in the top of the fifth. 

From there, the Indians tacked on six more runs in the top of the sixth, while EHS scored one final run in the bottom of the sixth as HHS gained a win by 10 runs. 

Each team committed four errors. 

Jack Cornele was the leader at the plate for the Indians as he was 4-for-5 with three runs, one RBI, one double and two steals. 

Walker Pence finished 2-for-5 with one run, two RBI and two doubles. Brody Kelch also had a two-hit game, going 2-for-2 with two runs, two RBI and two walks.

Luke Holland finished 2-for-4 as he added one run and two RBI. 

Zack Brown ended the day with two runs and two walks. Teammate Oberrecht forced one walk, while Mason Dumpert finished the game with two runs, two walks and a steal. Brady Juillerat collected a run, one RBI and a HBP. Nate Lane also had a HBP. Logan Barton scored a run for the Indians.

Monday (May 4) was the next-to-last Frontier Athletic Conference game for Hillsboro, as the Indians lost to the Jackson Ironmen 7-2 at HHS. 

When the second inning came to a close, the Indians and Ironmen were tied at 1-1 as they each scored a run in the second inning. JHS took the lead with a three-run top of the fifth. HHS scored their final run of the game in the bottom of the sixth, and Jackson scored a final run in the top of the seventh. 

The Ironmen finished with 10 hits and had one error. HHS totaled five hits and two errors. 

Five HHS players each finished with one hit, with Walker Pence going 1-for-4 with a steal, while Luke Holland was 1-for-3 with an RBI. 

Carter Stingley was 1-for-1, Brady Juillerat finished 1-for-3 with an RBI and Logan Barton was 1-for-1. 

Mason Dumpert scored a run, had two steals and walked once. Brayden Oberrecht forced a walk. 

Holland pitched 6.2 innings, finishing with eight strikeouts. 

Jackson moves to 8-1 in the FAC (first place) and 16-3 overall.

The Hillsboro Indians were back on the baseball diamond Tuesday (May 5) as they defeated the visiting Fayetteville Rockets, 12-2 in five innings. 

HHS held a lead of 8-2 after the first inning, then they added four runs in the bottom of the third for the 12-2 run-rule win. Each team finished with five hits and HHS totaled one error, while the Rockets had two errors. 

Hillsboro’s hits were from Walker Pence (1-for-2, a steal, two runs, a triple, three RBI, two walks), Jack Cornele (1-for-1, two runs, two steals, one RBI, two walks), Luke Holland (1-for-3, a double, one run, two RBI), Carter Stingley (1-for-3, one run, a double, three RBI) and Von Steward (1-for-1, a HBP, two runs, one RBI). 

The Indians also had Zack Brown with two runs, one RBI and two HBP. Mason Dumpert finished with one run and an HBP. Brayden Oberrecht totaled a run and a walk, while teammate Logan Barton walked once. 

Oberrecht was the winning pitcher, allowing no earned runs on five hits and one walk with four strikeouts. 

HHS is now 3-6 in the FAC standings and 10-10 overall.
