Mustangs dominate Eastern Eagles and West Union for consecutive wins

Taking just five innings, the Lynchburg-Clay Mustangs used six hits and 14 walks to gain a Southern Hills Athletic Conference win on Tuesday, April 7 against West Union. 

On Monday, April 6, the Mustangs were on the road and defeated the Eastern Eagles in non-conference competition by a 13-2 score. 

In the April 6 game, the Mustangs began their surge of scoring early with nine runs in the top of the first inning, and later they added four final runs with two in the top of the sixth and two in the top of the seventh inning. Eastern scored their two runs in the bottom of the sixth. 

The Mustangs ended the game with 13 hits and one error, while the Eagles totaled four hits and committed three errors. 

Quin Wells was 3-for-5 with three runs and three RBI in the LCHS victory as one of his hits was a double, plus he added three steals. 

Elam Faust ended the game at 2-for-4 with four runs, two doubles, two HBP, two steals and two RBI. 

Max Baker was 2-for-5 with one RBI. Harley Lewis finished 2-for-3 with two runs and a walk. 

Kristian Beachy was 1-for-4 with three RBI, while teammate Tanner Roberts went 1-for-3 with one RBI and one walk. Aiden Bene was 1-for-4 with one run. The Mustangs also had Aric Slack finish 1-for-4 with one run and two RBI. 

Caden Boone collected one RBI, and Trevor Niehaus scored one run. 

Wells was the winning pitcher, finishing with 5.1 innings on the mound with two earned runs on three hits and two walks with four strikeouts on 83 pitches. 

Beachy pitched 1.2 innings, allowing no earned runs on one hit and no walks with three strikeouts on 24 pitches. 

The following day (April 7) the Mustangs gained a SHAC win over the visiting West Union Dragons, 15-0 in five innings. 

LCHS totaled six hits with 14 walks in the win, as they had six players record one hit. 

In the SHAC win, the Mustangs saw Tristan Puckett finish 1-for-1 with one run and one walk. Quin Wells was 1-for-2 with two runs, one RBI and one walk. 

Max Baker finished 1-for-2 with two runs, two RBI and he also forced a walk. Trevor Niehaus ended at 1-for-1 (a double) with one run, three RBI and two walks. Aric Slack was 1-for-2, collecting one RBI and forcing a walk. Harley Lewis finished 1-for-2 with one run, two RBI and one walk. 

Alex Van Fleet scored one run and forced a walk. Kristian Beachy scored two runs and walked twice. Caden Boone scored two runs and walked once, Tanner Roberts scored two runs with two walks, and Luke Davis scored one run, collected one RBI and forced a walk. 

Boone, Faust, Beachy and Wells all were hit by a pitch. Van Fleet (two), Beachy (two), Wells (two), Faust, Baker, Roberts and Puckett all had steals. 

Niehaus was the winning pitcher with four innings pitched, with no earned runs, on two hits and one walk with 11 strikeouts. Aiden Bene pitched one inning, with no earned runs, hit or walks and three strikeouts. 

LCHS now stands at 6-0 overall this season.

Next for the Mustangs is a non-conference game Wednesday, April 8 at VA Memorial Stadium in Chillicothe against Amanda-Clearcreek at 7:30 p.m.
