Indians narrowly fall to Cavaliers in FAC battle

The Hillsboro Indians narrowly lost their Frontier Athletic Conference game Friday night (Jan. 23) on the road against the host Chillicothe Cavaliers by a 54-50 score, as the Indians had a couple of late chances to take home a win.
In the FAC game, the Indians trailed by just three points after the first quarter at 17-14, where for HHS they had Brady Juillerat go 3-of-3 from the free-throw line in the quarter, while Mason Dumpert sank one basket, and it was Jack Howland scoring nine points in the quarter off a 3-pointer, two two-point baskets and two free throws.
For the game, Howland led the Indians with 33 points, making 10 two-point baskets, two 3-pointers, and he was 7-of-8 from the free-throw line. He also had four rebounds, two assists and one steal.
Hillsboro in the second quarter was outscored 15-8 for a halftime score of 32-22 for a Chillicothe lead. Hillsboro’s second quarter included six points off three two-point baskets by Howland and one two-point basket made by Jeven Hochstuhl.
The Indians led the third quarter at 13-8 for a 40-35 deficit after three frames, as the Indians had two points from Dawson Barnett with a basket, while Howland had eight points off two two-point baskets, along with being 4-of-4 from the free-throw line in the frame. Easton Inman also sank a 3-pointer in the quarter.
HHS also won the fourth frame at 15-14 as the Indians had 10 points from Howland off a 3-pointer, three two-point buckets and one made free throw. Juillerat sank a 3-pointer in the fourth, and Dumpert scored two points with a basket.
The Indians as a team totaled 14 two-point baskets, four 3-pointers, and they went 10-of-11 from the free-throw line. The Indians also added 27 rebounds (11 offensive), four assists and four steals.
Juillerat finished the game for HHS with six points and five rebounds. Dumpert totaled four points, eight rebounds, two assists and two steals. Inman finished with three points and five rebounds.
HHS also had two points from both Barnett (four rebounds, one steal) and Hochstuhl (one rebound).
CHS (5-2, 10-3) finished with team totals that included 20 two-point baskets, two 3-pointers, and they were 8-of-15 from the free-throw line. They also had 29 rebounds (14 offensive).
The Cavaliers were led by Andrew Hamman with 22 points by making eight two-point baskets and two 3-pointers. Cooper Stoneking finished with 15 points off five two-pointers, and he was 5-of-7 from the free-throw line.
Other final scoring totals for the Cavs were Ka’von Pleasant (2), Caydon Cox (8), Isaac Austin (4) and Noah Netter (3).
Next for the Indians (1-6, 4-12) is a home game scheduled for Tuesday, Jan. 27 against the Fairfield Lions.
