Indians drop games at Miami Trace, Blanchester

On Friday and Saturday, the Hillsboro Indians lost a Frontier Athletic Conference game at Miami Trace, then the following day they lost two games in Clinton County in a doubleheader at Blanchester.

Hillsboro lost 8-1 at Miami Trace Friday night, where they scored their lone run in the top of the sixth. Miami Trace scored one run in the second, followed by two runs in the third, three runs in the fourth and ended the scoring with two runs in the bottom of the fifth.

Miami Trace finished the game with 10 hits and one error, while the Indians had five hits and three errors.

The Indians in their five hits saw Nic Burns with a 2-for-3 at the plate with one run and a steal. Jackson Cornele was also 2-for-3.

HHS also saw Korbin Adams go 1-for-3 with a double and one RBI. Will Hart forced a walk, and Brayden Hunter was hit by a pitch.

Ashton Clemons pitched for HHS, where in five innings allowed eight runs (four earned) on eight hits and one walk, with two strikeouts.

Peyton Aber pitched one inning, allowing no runs on two hits and no walks. He collected one strikeout against the Panthers.

On Saturday in game one at Blanchester, the Indians lost 13-7 against the Wildcats.

BHS scored three runs in the bottom of the first, then each team added one run in the second, and BHS scored three runs in the bottom of the fourth for a 7-1 lead after four innings.

In the top of the fifth, HHS scored three runs, but the Wildcats had a six-run inning for 13-4 lead. HHS closed out the game with one run in the sixth and two runs in the seventh.

In all, the Indians had seven hits and committed four errors. Blanchester had nine hits and one error.

Burns finished the first game 2-for-3 with two RBI and two walks. Adams was 1-for-4 with one run and one RBI. Cornele was 1-for-3 with a double and three RBI.

Ovid Wilson ended the game 1-for-1 with a run, Travis Ross went 1-for-4 with a double and run, and Brogen Priest finished 1-for-2 with a run, one RBI and a walk.

Bryce Parsons collected two walks in the loss. Brayden Hunter scored a run, Thompson drew a walk and Ashton Clemons also had a walk.

On the mound, Zach Burwinkel pitched four innings, allowing seven runs (three earned) on five hits and no walks. He struck out one batter.

Aber pitched 0.2 innings, where six runs scored (four earned) on three walks and two hits. Gavin Miller pitched 1.1 innings, where he allowed no runs on two hits and one strikeout.

In game two, Blanchester defeated Hillsboro, 6-5.

BHS led 2-1 after two innings, followed with by Indians plating four runs in the top of the third for a 5-2 HHS lead. Blanchester chipped away with two runs in the bottom of the fifth, and one run each in the sixth and seventh innings for the 6-5 BHS victory.

HHS was outhit by the Wildcats 8-7, and each team committed an error.

Cornele was perfect at the plate, finishing 3-for-3 with two runs and two steals. Adams went 1-for-4 with a double and one run.

Hunter ended the day 1-for-3 with one run and one RBI. Ross finished 1-for-3 with a run and two RBI. There was also Walker Pence going 1-for-3 with one RBI and two steals, and Will Hart forced a walk.

Ben Miller pitched five innings, allowing four runs (one earned) on five hits and three walks. He finished with three strikeouts, finishing with 88 pitches, 48 for strikes, facing 25 batters.

Hunter was charged with the loss, allowing two runs (one earned) on three hits and one walk.

The Indians now stand at 1-10 overall this season.
