Indians defeated in 2 consecutive games against Blue Lions

The Hillsboro Indians faced Frontier Athletic Conference rival, the Washington Blue Lions on consecutive days this past Thursday (May 8) and Friday (May 9) in a home-and-home series where the Blue Lions won both contests. 

The first game took two days to complete due to rain and wet field conditions, but the Blue Lions were the victors by a 4-1 score. On Friday in game two, Washington won over Hillsboro 3-0. 

In game one on Thursday/Friday, the Indians and Blue Lions both reached the scoreboard in the fourth inning for a 1-1 score. Washington then added three runs in the top of the fifth for what became the final score at 4-1. 

The Blue Lions totaled eight hits and one error, while the Indians had seven hits and one error. 

Zack Brown, Wesley Bailey and Nate Lane all ended the game with two hits for Hillsboro. Brown was 2-for-4 with one RBI. Lane finished 2-for-3 with a walk. Bailey was 2-for-3 with a walk. Brody Kelch had a hit for the Indians as well, going 1-for-1. 

HHS also saw Brayden Hunter force a walk, and Jeven Hochstuhl scored a run, had a stolen base and walked once. Jack Cornele was hit by a pitch to reach the bases.

On the mound, the Indians allowed just one earned run combined between two pitchers in the hard-luck loss. Walker Pence went two innings, allowing no runs or hits with two walks and a strikeout. 

Brayden Oberrecht in five innings allowed four runs (one earned) on eight hits and one walk with six strikeouts.

On Friday (May 9) in their second FAC game against each other, the Indians lost to Washington by a 3-0 score. 

The Indians totaled three hits and had one error, while Washington finished with eight hits and an error. 

The Blue Lions scored one run in the bottom of the second, followed by a run in the third, and they capped off the scoring with a run in the fifth inning. 

Hillsboro’s trio of Walker Pence, Wesley Bailey and Brody Kelch combined for the Indians’ three hits. Pence was 1-for-4, Bailey went 1-for-3 with a steal and Kelch was 1-for-3. 

Forcing three walks was Zack Brown, while Nate Lane, Luke Holland and Brady Juillerat also had one walk apiece. 

Holland on the mound pitched six innings, allowing three earned runs on eight hits and no walks. He ended the game with an impressive eight strikeouts, throwing 77 pitches. 

Hillsboro now has an overall record of 5-12 and 2-8 in the FAC.
