Howland scores new career-high 41 points in win at New Richmond

The Hillsboro Indians faced two sets of Lions over the weekend, as they lost in Frontier Athletic Conference play on Friday at Washington C.H. against the Blue Lions, but battled back for a Saturday evening win against the New Richmond Lions.
Both games on Friday and Saturday were away games for Hillsboro, as their Saturday game saw Hillsboro junior Jack Howland score 41 points in their 68-55 win over the New Richmond Lions at NRHS.
The Jan. 31, 2026 win for the Indians included a career-high by Howland as the junior — who now has 1,233 career points — saw his 41-point game include 13 two-point baskets, two 3-pointers and he was also 9-of-11 from the free-throw line. Howland also grabbed nine rebounds and had three assists and two steals.
Howland's 41-point journey saw him shoot 100 percent in the second half, a two-quarter period where he was 9-of-9 from the field with two 3-pointers and seven two-point baskets, plus from the free-throw line he was 5-of-6 in the second half.
The first half saw Howland score six points in the first quarter off two baskets from the field and two converted free-throw shots. The second frame included the junior making four two-point baskets and going 2-of-3 from the free-throw line.
Howland’s third frame included 12 points with a 3-pointer, four two-point baskets and a made free throw. The fourth quarter had Howland with three two-point baskets, one 3-pointer, and he was 4-of-5 from the free-throw line.
The Indians won the first frame at 11-9 for a two-point lead going into the second quarter as HHS had seven of their 11 points in the opening frame come from the free-throw line, with Mason Dumpert going 4-of-6 from the free-throw line in the quarter, and Dawson Barnett was 1-of-2.
HHS outscored the Lions 20-11 in the second quarter for a 31-20 lead at halftime. The remainder of the second-quarter scoring for the Indians included Dumpert with five points off two two-point buckets and a free throw, and Brady Juillerat made a 3-pointer and was 2-of-2 from the free-throw line in the frame.
Hillsboro added one point to their lead following the third frame at 50-36 — a 14-point advantage — with Barnett scoring three points in the quarter, Gaige Greer making a basket for two points, and Jeven Hochstuhl also sinking a basket for two points, along with the aforementioned points scored by Howland.
The Indians’ fourth frame, where they scored 18 points and New Richmond had 19 points, also included one made free throw by Barnett and two baskets for four points by Easton Inman.
More final individual game totals for Hillsboro included Dumpert with nine points off two two-pointers and he was 5-of-7 from the free-throw line. Dumpert also had five rebounds and three assists.
Barnet finished with five points (one two-pointers, 3-of-8 FT-line), seven rebounds, two assists and two steals. Juillerat totaled five points (one 3-pointer, 2-of-2 FT-line), four rebounds and two assists.
Inman ended with four points (two two-pointers) and one rebound. Greer totaled two points, and Zack Brown finished with two rebounds, one assist and one steal.
For the game, the Indians made 20 two-pointers, three 3-pointers (Howland 2, Juillerat 1) and were 19-of-30 (63.3-percent) from the free-throw line. They also collected 28 rebounds (six offensive), 13 assists and seven steals, and had 20 turnovers.
New Richmond was led by Alex Uhlenbrock with 20 points as he made seven two-pointers, one 3-pointer, and he was 3-of-3 from the free-throw line. He also had four rebounds and two assists.
NRHS (0-17) also had Brady Young with 12 points and Colten Luck with 10 points, as they had three players with at least 10 points.
The Lions’ team totals were 19 two-point baskets, two 3-pointers and they were 11-of-14 from the free-throw line (78.6-percent). New Richmond also had 26 rebounds (10 offensive), nine assists, five steals and three blocks.
Following the two games played over the weekend, the Indians are now 5-13 overall and 1-7 in the FAC.

Friday night (Jan. 30) at Washington High School in Fayette County, the Hillsboro Indians lost their FAC game to the host Washington Blue Lions, 42-29.
HHS struggled in the first half with three points total, all in the first quarter. Washington scored eight points in the first frame and 10 points in the second for a 18-3 lead over Hillsboro at halftime.
HHS outscored Washington in the second half at 26-24, as the Indians won the third frame at 15-10, but lost the fourth quarter at 14-11.
Hillsboro’s leading scorer was Jack Howland with 12 points, making three two-point baskets, one 3-pointer and he was 3-of-4 from the free-throw line. Howlans added 10 rebounds for a double-double, three assists and three steals.
The Indians also had scoring from Easton Inman with seven points by making two two-pointers and a 3-pointer. Inman also collected three rebounds. Jeven Hochstuhl finished with six points by making two 3-pointers, and he also had three rebounds and two steals.
Mason Dumpert finished with four points off two baskets, plus he finished with five rebounds and three assists. Brady Juillerat totaled two points and three rebounds. Zack Brown had one rebound against Washington.
Hillsboro’s team totals were eight two-point baskets, four 3-pointers (Howland 1, Inman 1, Hochstuhl 2), and they were 3-of-6 from the free-throw line. HHS also collected 25 rebounds (eight offensive), six assists, five steals and they had 10 turnovers.
The Indians are scheduled to play again on Tuesday, Feb. 3 on the road at Huntington Local High School against the Huntington Huntsmen.
