Hillsboro wrestling falls to visiting Jackson

HILLSBORO — Thursday evening at the Hillsboro High School Gymnasium, the Hillsboro boys and girls varsity wrestling teams hosted the Jackson Ironmen and Ironladies as the wrestlers from JHS won the event. 

In the girls matches, Jackson won the 140-pound match as junior Isabella Harris defeated Hillsboro junior Peyton Hipsher by tech fall (17-7). JHS also won the 170-pound match as sophomore Carolynn Cox of Jackson won by pin in the second round over freshman Khloe Daniels of HHS. 

For the Lady Indians in the 120-pound weight class, freshman Izzy Storer defeated Jackson sophomore Piper Gentry by pin in the first round. Hillsboro also had junior Arrielle Burns win at the 125-pound weight class by defeating sophomore Lily Ervin of Jackson by pin in the first round. 

In an exhibition match, Hillsboro sophomore Miley Messer won over sophomore Piper Gentry.

In the boys match, the Indians lost by a 60-12 score. 

Jackson won the following matches via forfeit: 106 pounds (Ryder Thomas), 120 pounds (Ryan Seymour), 157 pounds (Sandro Ivechiani), 175 pounds (Kobi Braden) and 215 pounds (Sean Tanner). There were double forfeits at 113 pounds and 190 pounds. 

Jackson’s Braiden McGinnis won at 126 pounds over Hillsboro’s Ben Sanders in the first round. Hillsboro won the 132 pound match as Landon Frazier won via pin over Gage Boswell in the second round. 

Carter Staten of JHS won the 138 pound match against Hillsboro’s Kenneth Miller in the first round. Hillsboro’s Robbie Souder defeated Jackson’s Jason Spaniel in the second round in the 144-pound match. 

At 150, Jackson’s Achi Ivechiani defeated Hillsboro’s Conner Purdon. The 165 pound match saw Jackson’s Justen Riddle win against Jace Zugg in the second round. The 285 pound match saw Jackson’s Grant Kennedy win against Andrew Shelton in the first round.
