Hillsboro softball drops game to Adena Warriors

In their second half of their Saturday doubleheader, the Hillsboro Lady Indians fell to the visiting Adena Lady Warriors 13-7 at Hillsboro High School.
Earlier in the day, the Lady Indians fell to the Lynchburg-Clay Lady Mustangs, 3-1 as HHS begins the season at 0-2 overall.
The Lady Warriors scored runs in five of the seven innings played, and HHS scored two runs in the bottom of the first and then had a five-run inning in the bottom of the fifth.
Adena led 3-2 after the first inning was completed, then AHS added three runs in the top of the third, two more runs in the fourth inning and then had a three-run top of the fifth inning for an 8-2 lead.
HHS battled back with five runs in the bottom of the fifth, but Adena added to their lead with two more runs in the top of the seventh inning.
In all for Adena, they had 13 runs, 10 hits and three errors, while HHS totaled seven runs, 10 hits and seven errors.
Only two of Adena’s 13 runs were earned.
Peyton Spurlock (68 pitches, 43 strikes) pitched four innings, where seven runs scored (none were earned runs) off four hits and two walks with five strikeouts. Blair Gard (62 pitches, 39 strikes) was the starter, where in three innings, six runs were scored (two earned) off six hits and two walks.
At the plate, Hillsboro had a 2-for-4 day from Rilynn Swisshelm with two runs. Addley Miller was 2-for-4 with one run and two RBI. Spurlock went 1-for-4 with one run and two RBI.
Paisley Zink ended the game at 1-for-4 with one RBI, and Emory Zornes was 1-for-4 with one RBI. Peyton Hipsher ended the game at 1-for-1, hitting a double, and Raeden Workman was 1-for-2 with one run. Gard finished 1-for-3 with one run.
