Hillsboro passes season-opening road test; defeats Blanchester

The Hillsboro Lady Indians opened the 2023-24 season with a big non-conference win Wednesday night, defeating the host Blanchester Lady Wildcats, 65-20.

In the first quarter, the Lady Indians scored 20 points for a 20-4 lead with Blake Herdman scoring six points in the first frame, while Kobie Miles scored five. Rylie Scott scored four points in the opening quarter, while Tylee Davis added three points in the first frame and Peighton Bledsoe scored two points.

The second frame was even better for the Lady Indians, scoring 26 points and holding Blanchester to just two points for a halftime lead of 46-6.

Hillsboro’s second quarter consisted of eight points by Bledsoe, seven points from Herdman, six points by Addyson Miles, three points from Davis and Kayla Seeling with two points.

Eleven more points were added to the scoreboard for HHS in the third quarter with Addyson Miles scoring five points, Scott with four points and Kobie Miles with two points.

The fourth quarter saw HHS scored eight points with Davis scoring four points, while Scott and Bledsoe each added two points.

HHS was led by Herdman with 13 points, as she made two two-point baskets, one 3-pointer and she was 4-of-4 from the free-throw line.

Bledsoe ended the game with 12 points as she made six two-point baskets. Also in double-figure scoring were Addyson Miles with 11 points (four two-point baskets, one 3-pointer), Scott with 10 points (five two-point baskets) and Davis with 10 points (four two-point baskets, 2-of-3 from the free-throw line).

Kobie Miles finished with seven points, as she made three two-point baskets and was 1-of-2 from the free-throw line, while Seeling finished with two points.

In the second half for Blanchester, they scored nine points in the third and five points in the fourth quarter.

Kaylee Coule led BHS with nine points.

The win improves Hillsboro to 1-0 overall, and Blanchester falls to 0-1.

Next for Hillsboro is a non-conference game on Saturday, Nov. 25 at the Goshen Lady Warriors at 7 p.m.
