Hillsboro Lady Indians fall to Waynesville; defeat Portsmouth West

The Hillsboro Lady Indians recently split their past two games, as they lost a non-conference game to Waynesville and defeated Portsmouth West, with both games being road contests.
On Monday, Feb. 2, the Lady Indians lost to the Waynesville Lady Spartans 53-32 at Waynesville High School.
The Lady Indians trailed 13-6 after the first quarter, and following a 14-4 second frame with Waynesville leading the frame, the home team also led at halftime by a 27-10 score.
In the second half, Hillsboro won the third frame at 15-7 for a 34-25 score with WHS in the lead, and the fourth frame saw the Lady Spartans win the frame at 19-7 for the 21-point win over Hillsboro.
Tylee Davis was Hillsboro’s leading scorer with 16 points, totaling four two-point baskets, one 3-pointer, and she went 5-of-6 from the free-throw line. She also finished with nine rebounds, two assists and four steals.
Scoring four points each were Ella Jordan (three rebounds, two assists, one steal, one block), Kobie Miles (six rebounds, one assist, one steal), Annia Young (four rebounds, one steal) and Taylor-Ann Scruggs (three rebounds, one block).
For the game, the Lady Indians totaled nine two-point baskets, one 3-pointer, and they were 11-of-14 from the free-throw line. Hillsboro also finished the game with 25 rebounds (seven offensive), five assists, seven steals and three blocks with 18 turnovers.
Waynesville was led in the scoring column by Maggie Stephenson with 14 points, Grace Ann Cordey with 13 points and Katie Berrey with 13 points. Also scoring points for WHS were Kloe Frankenberg with seven points, Amelia Bunch with four points and Maddie Kolaczkowski with two points.

Hillsboro’s next game was a non-conference road win over the Portsmouth West Lady Trojans by a 72-39 score at PWHS on Thursday, Feb. 5.
The win by the Lady Indians included them leading 17-12 after the first quarter, and after outsourcing West 20-12 in the second frame, they held a 37-24 halftime advantage.
HHS in the first frame had seven points from Ella Jordan with a 3-pointer, a two-pointer, and two free throws. Kobie Miles made a 3-pointer and two two-point baskets in the first frame. Also in the first, Annia Young scored two points with a basket, and Tylee Davis made a free throw.
The second quarter included a 3-pointer and 4-of-4 performance from the free-throw line by Jordan. Miles made a two-point basket, Davis made three two-pointers and a free throw, while Young made two baskets for four points.
Hillsboro won the third frame at 12-7 for a 49-31 score after three quarters. In the fourth frame, Hillsboro broke out with a 23-8 fourth quarter as the Lady Indians gained a 33-point victory.
The Lady Indians in the third had four points scored by Davis with a basket and two free throws. Scoring two points each in the third were Jordan, Miles, Piper Wilkin and Young.
Hillsboro’s 23-point fourth frame saw Jordan make two 3-pointers and a two-point basket, Miles sank one jumper, and Davis scored four points with a basket and two made free throws. With two points each in the fourth quarter were Kylee-Ann Scruggs, Parker Wilkin, Taylor-Ann Scruggs and Nevaeh Blair.
Hillsboro’s leading scorer was Jordan with a career-high 24 points, as she ended the game with three two-point baskets, four 3-pointers, and they were 6-of-7 from the free-throw line.
Davis finished the game with six two-point baskets, and she was 5-of-6 from the free-throw line. Davis finished with a double-double with 10 rebounds and one assist.
Miles totaled 13 points as she made five two-pointers, one 3-pointer, plus she had six rebounds, two assists, and two steals. Young finished with eight points off two two-pointers, three rebounds, two assists, one steal and one block.
Scoring two points for the game were Piper Wilkin (two rebounds, six assists), Blair (one rebound), Kylee-Ann Scruggs (two rebounds), Taylor-Ann Scruggs (one rebound) and Parker Wilkin (one rebound, one steal).
HHS finished the game with 22 two-point baskets, five 3-pointers (Jordan 4, Miles 1), and they were 13-of-15 from the free-throw line (86.7-percent). Hillsboro also collected 33 rebounds (13 offensive), 15 assists, eight steals and one block.
PWHS was led by Hailey Carver with nine points, Maddox Lawless with eight points, and with seven points each were Macey Whismen and Brayleigh Pistole. The rest of Portsmouth West’s scoring was by Shelia Harrison (2), Ally Buckner (3) and Kayla Throckmorton (3).
After the two games, the Lady Indians now stand at 13-6 overall (8-1, FAC). PWHS now stands at 13-6 overall.
