Hillsboro falls to Batavia and Wilmington in non-conference action

Thursday, April 23 saw the Hillsboro Lady Indians fall in non-conference action on the road against the Batavia Lady Bulldogs by a 4-2 score.

Batavia scored all four of their runs with four runs in the bottom of the fourth inning. HHS scored both of their runs in the top of the sixth. 

Hillsboro finished the game with eight hits, and Batavia had seven hits. Each team committed two errors. 

Rilynn Swisshelm was 2-for-4 to lead the hit total by HHS.

Chloe Roberts hit a home run as she was 1-for-4 with one run and one RBI. Addley Miller finished 1-for-3 with a run. Emory Zornes was 1-for-2 and was hit by a pitch. 

Raeden Workman went 1-for-3, while Peyton Hipsher was 1-for-1 and Blair Gard went 1-for-3. Peyton Spurlock had a steal in the game. 

Swisshelm pitched six innings for HHS where she allowed no earned runs and had four strikeouts.

Friday saw the Hillsboro Lady Indians and Wilmington Lady Hurricane combine for 31 runs, where it was the visiting Lady ’Cane gaining the non-conference win by a 17-14 score at Hillsboro High School. 

Hillsboro jumped out to a 9-4 lead after the first inning, then after Wilmington scored two runs in the top of the second, while HHS had one run in the same inning, it was HHS leading 10-6. 

WHS scored three runs in the top of the fourth, but HHS answered with two runs in the bottom of the fifth for a 12-9 lead. 

The top of the sixth inning saw WHS score four runs, then they took the lead with another four-run inning in the top of the seventh. Hillsboro rallied but came up short with two runs in the bottom of the seventh for the three-run loss. 

Four Hillsboro players each had three hits (the first four batters of the order) where Rilynn Swisshelm went 3-for-4 with three runs, a double, a steal, two RBI and a walk. She also pitched seven innings, finishing with four strikeouts. 

Chloe Roberts was 3-for-5 with three runs, a home run, a double and four RBI. 
Addley Miller was 3-for-5 with a run, a double and one RBI. 

Peyton Spurlock finished 3-for-5 with three runs and a steal. 

Emory Zornes was 2-for-5 with two doubles, two runs and two RBI. Paisley Zink finished 2-for-4 with one run. Blair Gard was 2-for-4 with one run. 

Leah Vance finished 1-for-4 with an RBI. Raeden Workman had one run. 

Hillsboro now stands at 3-14 overall, and they are 2-6 in the FAC.
