In their two-game regular season baseball series, which took place on Monday and Wednesday, the McClain Tigers and Hillsboro Indians each won a game on their home diamonds — splitting the series — where McClain won the first game in walk-off fashion by a 2-1 score, and Hillsboro won two days later by a score of 10-5 in Frontier Athletic Conference action.

Monday (April 28) the Indians led 1-0 after the top of the first inning, and McClain tied the score at 1-1 with a run in the bottom of the fifth.

Wesley Bailey scored the first run of the game — off an infield error — for the Indians, with one out in the top of the second, for the 1-0 lead.

McClain answered with a game-tying run in the bottom of the fifth as the two-out run scored when Hunter Peabody hit a single near the shortstop, scoring Matthew Cummins, who reached the bases with a one-out walk. Cummins took second with a steal, and raced to third base on an infield error.

The game-winning run was scored with the walk-off hit by McClain’s Carson Chandler, as he hit a line drive to left field scoring Conner Chandler for the 2-1 win in seven innings.

HHS finished the game with four hits and three errors, while McClain totaled seven hits and two errors.

Conner Chandler was 2-for-3 with one run and a walk.

Five Tigers each had one hit in their FAC win, as Peabody went 1-for-4 with one RBI, and Carson Chandler also finished 1-for-4 with an RBI.

Kolton Lamb was 1-for-2 with a hit-by-pitch and a steal. Alex Perie ended his day at 1-for-3. Cummins finished 1-for-3 with a run and a steal.

Cohen Six forced a walk at the plate, and he was also stellar from the mound, earning the win. Six in seven innings went the distance, finishing with one run allowed (unearned) on four hits and no walks with nine strikeouts.

For the Indians, they had four hits in the conference showdown against the Tigers, as Zack Brown was 1-for-3, and Walker Pence went 1-for-3. Bailey was also 1-for-3 with a run and a steal, while Jeven Hochstuhl was 1-for-3 with a steal.

Brayden Oberrecht had the tough-luck loss, pitching 6.2 innings, allowing two runs (both unearned) on seven hits and two walks.
