McClain begins season with victory over Paint Valley

The 2024-25 girls basketball season started with a big win for the McClain Lady Tigers on the road, as they traveled to Bainbridge to defeat the Paint Valley Lady Bearcats by a 42-34 score.

McClain opened the game with a 14-point first quarter with 10 points from Paisley Pryor (including two 3-pointers) and four points scored by Anna Eikenberry.

MHS came back with eight points in the second with Larah Henson and Pryor each scoring two points, while Eikenberry had four points in the quarter for a halftime lead of 22-16.

In the first half for PVHS, they had two eight-point quarters.

PVHS won the third frame at 14-13, with McClain’s 13 points being scored by Lindsey Hutchinson, Pryor and Brenna Wright. The fourth frame saw the Lady Tigers add seven points to their final total with Brie Cummins, Wright and Eikenberry contributing to the scoring.

Pryor led MHS with 18 points, making two 3-pointers, four two-point baskets, and she was 4-of-7 from the free-throw line.

Eikenberry totaled 10 points in the game, followed by Wright with seven points, Cummins with three points, and with two points each were Henson and Hutchinson.

For the game, MHS totaled 11 two-point baskets, two 3-pointers and they were 14-of-24 from the free-throw line.

Paint Valley was led by Karris Dye with 17 points (two 3-pointers) and Sophia Stauffer with seven points.

Lady Tigers fall at Fayetteville

Going on the road for their second game to start the season, the McClain Lady Tigers lost their non-conference game to the host Fayetteville Lady Rockets by a 67-54 score.

Fayetteville scored 16 points in the first quarter, followed by a 10-point second frame. McClain in the first half had a 13-point first frame and 12-point second quarter, as Fayetteville led 26-25 at halftime.

MHS in the second half scored 15 points in the third and 14 points in the fourth quarter. The Lady Rockets added 20 points to their overall total in the third and 21 points in the fourth frame.

McClain was led in scoring by Larah Henson with 15 points, Anna Eikenberry with 13 points and Paisley Pryor with 12 points. The Lady Tigers also had six points from Katie Cook and four points each by Lindsey Hutchinson and Brenna Wright.

Fairfield drops game to West Union

In their season opener on Monday evening, the Fairfield Lady Lions lost to the host West Union Lady Dragons in Southern Hills Athletic Conference action by a 45-30 score at WUHS.

For WUHS, their quarter scoring consisted of 11 points in the first, followed by nine points in the second, 13 points in the third and 12 points in the fourth frame.

WUHS was led in scoring by Ashlah Staten with 13 points.

Fairfield’s quarter scoring consisted of three points in the first and four points in the second, as they trailed 20-7 at halftime. The second half saw Fairfield score 11 points in the third and 12 points in the fourth quarter.

Fairfield was led by Rilee Quickle, Vivian Henninger and Meri Jackson with eight points each. Paisley Stahlhut scored two points, Jaeden Drury totaled two points and Addison Cannon also scored two points.

Hillsboro wins at home against Goshen

The Hillsboro Lady Indians earned their first win of the 2024-25 season on Wednesday by defeating the visiting Goshen Lady Warriors, 59-44 at Hillsboro High School.

The non-conference win for the Lady Indians (1-1) saw them trail 11-4 after the first quarter, but they responded with a 13-7 second quarter for a halftime score of 18-17 in favor of Goshen.

The third quarter, HHS outscored Goshen 15-13, then the Lady Indians broke away in the final frame as they scored 27 points and held the Lady Warriors to 13 points.

For HHS, the leading scorer was Tylee Davis with 20 points, followed by a 17-point game from Peighton Bledsoe and 10 points scored by Ella Jordan.

Also finishing in the scoring column for the Lady Indians were Kobie Miles with seven points, Dinah Ames with three points and Annia Young with two points.

Goshen was led by Aubrie Huxel with 23 points.

The win improves HHS to 1-1 overall.

In JV action, Hillsboro HHS won by a 36-15 score. HHS was led by Annia Young with 11 points, while Dinah Ames followed with five points. Also in the JV game, scoring included: Chanel Captain (four), Kiara Boris (four), Taylor-Ann Scruggs (four), Peyton Gobin (three), Riley Pence (three) and Piper Wilkin (two).
