Over 60 kids had a fun experience learning about baseball fundamentals at Coach Veidt’s annual Baseball Commitment Camp held June 1-4, 2026. This year was special, marking the first year having the camp at Whiteoak High School’s Chris Veidt Field in Mowrystown.

Throughout the week, campers — ranging in ages 4-14 — learned about various baseball (and softball) skills. Olivia Veidt, one of the camp coaches said:

“Campers had fun participating in competitions including ground balls, fly balls, hitting, and bunting. They also focused on skills in throwing and catching, pitching (baseball and softball), infield, outfield, catching, base running, tee work, and sliding along with hitting with different-sized balls and implements."

This year marked Coach Veidt’s 21st year holding the camp.

“What an honor it was to spend four days with various age groups of future baseball and softball players, slowing the game down and giving them tools to excel on their current and future teams,” Coach Chris Veidt said. "I truly look forward to it every year. Even better this year to get it at home (WHS) on our new turf. Thank you to all the parents and guardians who entrusted us to pass along valuable skills to their young ones.”

One of the camp highlights took place during the last session where the instruction focused on sliding. Campers had a blast applying their sliding skills on slip-and-slide mats. It was also a perfect way to cool off on a warm and sunny afternoon.

The annual camp continues to provide young athletes with valuable instruction, confidence-building experiences, and a love for the game that will benefit them for years to come.
