Tigers shut out Wellston; game suspended vs. Wilmington

The McClain Tigers scored runs in just one inning, but that inning was an outstanding display of scoring, as an eight-run sixth inning led to the Tigers defeating the Wellston Rockets, 8-0 on Thursday at WHS. 

McClain finished the non-conference win with nine hits and one error, while Wellston totaled two hits and four errors. 

Of the nine hits by McClain, one-third of them came off the bat of Kolton Lamb, who was 3-for-4 with three RBI and a steal.

Connor Chandler finished the game with a 2-for-4 day at the plate with one run. 

Hunter Peabody finished 1-for-3 with two runs, one walk and a steal. Easton Ary was 1-for-4 with one run, while teammate Benny Vangundy went 1-for-4 with one RBI. Matthew Cummins was 1-for-4 with one run and one RBI. 

Chandler was the winning pitcher for the Tigers, pitching all seven innings for a complete game victory. In those seven innings, Chandler allowed no runs on two hits and five walks with four strikeouts on 93 pitches.

On Friday (April 3), the McClain Tigers hosted the Wilmington Hurricane, where the game was suspended in the bottom of the fourth inning with one out due to rain that caused field condition issues. 

After working to get the field repaired after a rain, the field/pitching mound was deemed unplayable, leading to a game suspension where the Tigers led the visiting Wilmington Hurricane, 6-1 with one out in the bottom of the fourth inning. 

McClain pitcher Easton Ary was in the midst of pitching a no-hitter as in four innings he had allowed no hits, no earned runs, a HBP and no walks with four strikeouts on 60 pitches, 41 for strikes. 

In the game, Connor Chandler was 2-for-3 with a double, two runs and a steal. Kolton Lamb was at 2-for-3 with a double, two runs, a steal and two RBI. 

Carson Chandler went 2-for-2 with a double, three RBI, while teammate Hunter Peabody was 1-for-2 with one run, a steal, one RBI and a walk. Kamden Penwell was 1-for-2, and Matthew Cummins was 1-for-2. Benny Vangundy was hit by a pitch, and he also scored a run.
