Tigers gain D4 District first round win over Vinton County

The McClain Tigers kept their 2-25 season going on Monday (May 19) with a Division IV SE District first round win over the host Vinton County Vikings by an 11-1 score in five innings. 

McClain gained the win with runs scored in three different innings, starting with a run scored in the top of the first, followed by a three-run third, and they capped the scoring off with a seven-run fifth inning for what became a 10-run win. 

VCHS scored one run in the bottom of the fifth inning. 

Three MHS players had multi-hit games, starting with Kolton Lamb leading McClain at 3-for-3 with one run and two RBI.

Connor Chandler was 2-for-3 with one run, one RBI and he forced a walk. Alex Perie went 2-for-3 with three RBI. 

Hudson Lovett ended the day at 1-for-4 (a double) with two runs, while teammate Cohen Six went 1-for-3 with one run. Hunter Peabody ended the game at 1-for-2 with two runs, one RBI and two walks. 

McClain also had one run scored by Julian Swan, and also scoring runs were Easton Ary, Landen McNeal and Eli Douglas, as Douglas also forced a walk. 

Six, Perie, Ary and Lamb were all hit by a pitch. Six (two), Lovett and Swan all had steals. 

Chandler was also the winning pitcher, going five innings on the mound, finishing with one earned run allowed on two hits and two walks with 10 strikeouts. Chandler threw 73 pitches, 49 for strikes. 

Next for McClain is a Division IV SE District quarterfinal game on Thursday, May 22 against No. 1 seeded Unioto at 5 p.m.
