Tigers defeat Blue Lions, fall to non-conference foe Unioto

Wednesday in Fayette County the McClain Tigers came back with a vengeance against the Washington Blue Lions as they avenged a Monday loss, as this time it was the Tigers gaining a 4-2 win over the host Blue Lions. 

McClain took the early 1-0 lead with a run in the top of the first, and they held a three-run lead with two runners crossing the plate in the top of the third. Washington responded with two runs in the bottom of the fourth inning, but in the top of the sixth the Tigers extended their lead to two runs with a run scored in the inning. 

MHS finished with nine hits and only one error, while the host Blue Lions had seven hits and no errors. 

Connor Chandler and Carson Chandler each led McClain with two-hit games. Connor Chandler was 2-for-4 with a triple. Carson Chandler went 2-for-4 with a double and one RBI.

Hunter Peabody was 1-for-3 with two runs, one RBI and a walk. Kolton Lamb went 1-for-4 with a triple, one run and one RBI.

The Tigers also had Kamden Penwell finish 1-for-4, and Jayce Storts was 1-for-2 with a double. Eli Douglas ended the game at 1-for-3 with a run and a steal. 

Easton Ary and Matthew Cummins each walked once.

Connor Chandler was the winning pitcher for the Tigers as he pitched a complete game (seven innings) where he allowed one earned run on seven hits and one walk with nine strikeouts. Chandler threw 108 pitches, 72 for strikes. 

Both Bryson Heath and Malachi Wynne led the Blue Lions, with Heath going 2-for-4 with two steals. Wayne finished 2-for-3 with one RBI. Sam Lotz and Aden Osborne each scored a run for Washington. 

MHS is now 2-2 in the FAC and 7-2 overall.

Tuesday (April 14) saw the McClain Tigers fall to the Unioto Shermans at UHS by a 10-6 score. The non-conference game had the Tigers leading 4-2 after the first inning, and they held a 5-3 lead after the second inning after each team scored a run in the inning.

The Tigers scored once in the top of the fourth, but the Shermans answered with two runs in the bottom of the fifth and five runs in the sixth inning. 

MHS totaled 12 hits and had one error, while UHS finished with 10 hits and no errors.

Kolton Lamb had a big game by finishing 3-for-3 with one run and one walk. Jayce Storts was 3-for-4 with a big game of his own, collecting two RBI. 

Carson Chandler had a two-hit game at 2-for-4 with one run and two RBI, with one of his hits being a double. 

Easton Ary was 1-for-2, scoring a run and drawing two walks. Kamden Penwell went 1-for-4, and he also scored a run. Eli Douglas finished 1-for-4 with one RBI and a steal. Matthew Cummins was 1-for-4. 

Connor Chandler scored a run and walked once. Hunter Peabody scored one run and walked once, plus he was hit by a pitch on two occasions, putting him on the bases three times. 

MHS used three pitchers in the game with Benny Vangundy pitching five innings and finishing with five strikeouts. Peabody pitched 0.2 innings, and Matthew Cummins pitched 0.1 innings.
