McClain wins 5th consecutive game; earns victories over Huntington, Paint Valley

In their past five games, the McClain Lady Tigers have earned all wins, as they added to that streak with two recent victories this past Thursday and Saturday by defeating Huntington and Paint Valley. 

The non-conference wins in their most two recent games saw McClain defeat HHS by an 11-3 score and Paint Valley by a 14-4 score. In the current five-game winning streak, the Lady Tigers have outscored their opponents 73-37, with the first three wins of the streak coming against Washington (14-9), Unioto (20-16) and Washington (14-5). 

After the two recent wins, MHS is over the .500 mark on the season with an overall record of 7-6. 

Thursday’s win saw the Lady Tigers win on the road at Huntington by an 11-3 score as this game saw MHS collect 18 hits and have two errors. Huntington totaled two hits and had four errors. 

In the April 16 game,;McClain started with a two-run top of the first inning, then scored three runs in the second for a 5-0 lead. 

Huntington scored their first run of the game in the bottom of the third, but the Lady Tigers responded with three runs in the top of the fourth. 

Both teams scored two runs each in the fifth inning, and McClain added one last run in the top of the sixth.

Olivia Stegbauer had a four-hit game — all for extra bases — finishing 4-for-5 with two runs, three doubles and a triple. 

Kambriah Tomlin was 3-for-5 for the Lady Tigers with two runs, a steal and a double. 

Brie Cummins had two extra-base hits with a triple and home run, as she was 2-for-5 with two runs and three RBI.

Leah Lovett finished 2-for-4 with two runs, one RBI, a walk and a double. Amaya Ryan was 2-for-5 with one run and two RBI. Kyndee Williams ended the game at 2-for-4 with a double and a run scored.

Emma Posey was 1-for-4 with a run, one RBI and a sacrifice fly. Cami Gall finished 1-for-5 with one RBI. Brylee Douglas went 1-for-4 with one RBI as her hit was a triple. 

Williams had the win in the circle with seven innings pitched, allowing two earned runs with seven strikeouts.

Saturday (April 18) saw the McClain Lady Tigers defeat Paint Valley from the Scioto Valley Conference by a 14-4 score in five innings for the run-rule win. 

McClain didn't hold back in the first inning as they gained a seven-run lead when the inning was finished as they built an 8-1 advantage with an eight-run first inning. 

Next came a strong five-run inning by McClain for a 13-1 lead. PVHS scored three runs in the top of the third to complete their scoring, and McClain scored one last run in the bottom of the fifth to get the 10-run lead for the run-rule victory. 

In the 18 hits compiled by the Lady Tigers, Brie Cummins and Emma Posey each had three hits, while Olivia Stegbauer, Leah Lovett and Kambriah Tomlin each had two hits. 

Cummins was 3-for-4 with three runs, two RBIs, a double and a triple. Posey finished 3-for-4 with two RBI. 

Stegbauer was 2-for-3 with two runs, one RBI and a sacrifice fly. Lovett ended the day at 2-for-3 with two runs, two RBI, a double and a home run. Tomlin went 2-for-2 with two runs and one walk.

Cami Gall finished 1-for-2 with a run, one RBI, a walk and a steal. Kundee Williams was 1-for-3 with two runs, and one RBI.  

Brylee Douglas was 1-for-2 with one run, four RBI and a home run. 

Amaya Ryan collected one run, one RBI and a walk with two steals. 

Gall was the winning pitcher with three innings pitched, allowing one earned run on two hits and two walks with one strikeout. Williams pitched two innings, allowing two earned runs on three hits and two walks with one strikeout.
