Traveling for a non-conference game on Friday, the McClain Lady Tigers were unable to return home with a win as they lost to the host Waverly Lady Tigers 9-6.
McClain out-hit Waverly 14-11, and each team committed two errors, but a big fifth inning seemed to be the difference maker in the showdown of the Lady Tigers.
Waverly took the early 2-0 lead after the first inning with two runs in the bottom of the first, but MHS tied the score at 2-2 with a run in the top of the second, followed by another run in the top of the third. Wavelry quickly responded with a run crossing the plate in the bottom of the third for a 3-2 advantage.
McClain took the lead with a three-run inning in the top of the fifth, but again, Waverly answered with six runs in the bottom of the same inning for a 9-5 lead. MHS continued to battle with a run in the top of the seventh for the final 9-6 score.
Emma Posey led MHS with a three-hit game by going 3-for-3 with one run.
Brie Cummins finished 2-for-4 with two runs and one hit. Also with a two-hit game was Leah Lovett, who went 2-for-4 with a double, one run and three RBI.
Lindsey Hutchinson was 2-for-4 with a double as she scored a run and had one RBI. Hayley Worthen ended her day at 2-for-3. Milla Everetts finished 1-for-3, and teammate Olivia Stegbauer went 1-for-4 with a run scored. Amaya Ryan was also 1-for-4.
Cummins and Lovett each had a stolen base.
MHS now stands at 3-5 overall.
