McClain Lady Tigers win against Zane Trace

Hosting the Zane Trace Lady Pioneers on Monday, Dec. 8, the McClain Lady Tigers earned a non-conference win in convincing fashion, winning by a score of 53-17 at McClain Gym. 

The Lady Tigers led 17-6 after the first quarter where Paisley Pryor scored six points, including making four free throws. Larah Henson also scored six points in the opening quarter by making three two-point baskets. Leah Lovett chipped in with three points connecting with a two-point shot and a made free throw, and Becca Bergstrom scored two points with a made basket. 

The second quarter saw the Lady Tigers outscore Zane Trace 15-6 for a halftime advantage of 32-12. That second frame included four points from Henson as she made a 3-pointer and a free throw. Pryor made two baskets for four points, and Brie Cummins sank a 3-pointer. McClain also had two points off a basket by Allie Burgess and two made free throws by Lovett. 

Following the break in action at halftime, the dominance really kicked in for the host Lady Tigers in the third frame, outscoring ZTHS 16-0 in the third quarter as Pryor scored eight points off four buckets in the frame. Lovett was 4-of-4 from the free-throw line in the third, Henson went 2-of-2 from the free-throw line in the same quarter, and McKenzie West sank a basket for two points with MHS leading 48-12 after three frames.

In the fourth and final frame, the Lady Tigers scored five points, all free throws by West who was 5-of-6 from the free-throw line in the fourth. Zane Trace also scored five points in the fourth quarter. 

Pryor led the Lady Tigers with 18 points, going 4-of-9 from the free-throw line, and she also made seven two-point baskets. Henson finished with 12 points as she sank a 3-pointer, made three two-point baskets and ended the game 3-of-4 from the free-throw line. 

Lovett totaled nine points in the non-conference win, finishing 7-of-8 from the free-throw line and making one basket. Scoring seven points was West with a two-point bucket and five made free throws. Cummins totaled three points for MHS on the victory, and scoring two points each were Bergstrom and Burgess. 

McClain totaled 14 two-point baskets, two 3-pointers, and they were 19-of-27 from the free-throw line. 

Zane Trace was led by Alexa Smith with six points, and next was Haylynn Boggess-Pierce with four points. Scoring two points each were Carlie Clark, Brynn Snavely and Emma Houston. ZTHS also had Savannah McCloskey score one point. 

The Lady Pioneers totaled eight two-point baskets and were 1-of-2 from the free-throw line.
