Lions, Lady Lions each fall to Fayetteville in SHAC matches

Monday evening in Southern Hills Athletic Conference action at Fairfield High School, both the boys and girls Fairfield soccer teams lost to the visiting Fayetteville Rockets.
The boys suffered their first loss of the ’26 season by a 2-0 score, and the girls Fairfield team lost a close contest against the Lady Rockets by a 3-2 score.
For the boys conference match, the Rockets had goals scored by sophomore Levi Espinoza and junior Brayden Williamson. Assists were credited to junior Keaton Strong (on Williamson’s goal) and Williamson (on Espinoza’s goal).
Those two goals were the first allowed by the Lions this season in what was the fourth match of the year for FHS.
At keeper for Fayetteville, senior Charlie Jordan finished with two saves.
Fayetteville’s boys win moves them to 4-0-0 overall with a 1-0-0 SHAC record. Fairfield is now 1-1-0 in the SHAC and 3-1-0 overall.
Next for Fairfield is a road non-conference match at Piketon on Wednesday, Aug. 26 at 5 p.m.
Fayetteville is scheduled to face the West Union Dragons on Wednesday, Aug. 26 at 5:30 p.m. in their next scheduled match.
Also on Monday evening, the Fairfield Lady Lions were defeated by the visiting Lady Rockets of Fayetteville by a 3-2 score in a contest between two of the stronger teams in the SHAC.
Fairfield held a 1-0 lead at halftime, but Fayetteville scored three second-half goals to eventually hand FHS their first conference loss of the season.
Fairfield’s goal were scored by senior Miley Brown and senior Vivian Henninger, with assists going to sophomore Brya Faber and senior Emerson Zink.
Goals scored by Fayetteville were made by senior Aubrey Barber with two goals and sophomore Kenna Stratton.
At goal for the Lady Lions was senior Meri Jackson, who ended the contest with 11 saves.
Fairfield now stands at 2-2-0 overall and 1-1-0 in the SHAC. Fayetteville is 2-0-1 overall and 1-0-0 in the SHAC standings.
Fairfield is scheduled to play again on Wednesday, Aug. 26 on the road in a non-conference match against Piketon at 7:30 p.m. at PHS.
