Lions gain 35-point win on homecoming against Manchester
Homecoming for the Fairfield Lions was a cause for celebration on the basketball court with the Lions winning their Southern Hills Athletic Conference game against the Manchester Greyhounds in convincing fashion.
Fairfield scored no less than 13 points in each of the fourth quarters, and their defense held the Greyhounds to single-digit scoring in two of the four quarters played, as the host Lions won at Grandle Gymnasium 70-35.
Prior to the game, Janre Lerio was named homecoming king, and Faith Donley was crowned the 2024 homecoming queen.
The Lions scored 13 points in the first quarter, then added 14 points once the second frame finished. In those same two quarters, the Greyhounds scored four points in the first frame and 13 points in the second, as the scoreboard showed the Lions leading 27-17 at halftime.
The second half began with the Lions outscoring MHS, 17-11, and in the fourth quarter the Lions scored 16 points and Manchester had a seven-point fourth frame.
The Lions has solid performances from a number of players, including Gabe Fouch with a team-high 18 points, totaling six two-point baskets, one 3-pointer and he was 3-of-3 from the free-throw line.
Trey House totaled 16 points, going 5-of-10 from the free-throw line, and he also collected four two-point baskets and he sank a 3-pointer.
Also with 16 points was Logan McIntosh, finishing the game with seven baskets from the field, including one 3-pointer, and he was 1-of-1 from the free-throw line. McIntosh also collected nine rebounds in the win.
Larkin Friend totaled nine points, 20 rebounds, 13 assists and four blocks for the Lions.
The rest of the Lions’ scoring included Cade Miller totaling five points, along with Lerio, Brody Smith and Chase Newman adding two points each.
As a team, the Lions totaled 24 two-point baskets, four 3-pointers (House, McIntosh, Fouch, Miller), and they were 10-of-12 from the free-throw line.
Conner Darnell finished the game with 12 points for Manchester.
Fairfield’s win lifts them to 8-0 in the SHAC Division II standings (first place) and 13-0 overall.
Fairfield is scheduled to play again Tuesday, Jan. 16 on the road in SHAC action against the Eastern Warriors at Kiser Court. EHS enters the game 7-1 in the SHAC Division I standings (second place) and 11-3 overall.
