Lions earn conference win over Fayetteville

The Fairfield Lions gained a big Southern Hills Athletic Conference victory Thursday evening by defeating the Fayetteville Rockets 10-2 at Fayetteville High School. 

The Lions led 1-0 after the first inning, and in the second Fairfield outscored the Rockets, 3-2 for a 4-2 lead. 

Fairfield added three runs in the top of the fifth, then added three more runs in the top of the sixth inning for their 10-2 win. The Lions finished with eight hits and had three errors, and the Rockets totaled four hits and three errors. 

Caleb Rice finished the day at 2-for-4 with one run, three RBI, a wal  and two steals, with one of his hits going for two bases. 

Cameron Miller also had two hits, finishing 2-for-4 with two RBI, a walk and he also collected a double in the win. 

Zane Collins went 1-for-3 with a run, a hit by pitch, walk, a steal and RBI. Anderson Humphreys was 1-for-4 with a run and a walk. Teammate Van Bennington finished the game at 1-for- 4 with two runs, one RBI, a steal and a wal, as his hit was a double. 

Weston Baldwin ended the game at 1-for-2 with three runs and two walks. 

Ben Miller and Greyson Abbott were each hit by a pitch. 

Miller was the winning pitcher as he pitched seven innings, allowing one earned run on four hits and two walks with seven strikeouts. Miller threw 104 pitches, 62 for strikes. 

The win moved the Lions to an overall record of 3-7 on the season.
