Lady Lions earn 21-point win against East Clinton at Chad Hodson Classic

LEESBURG — The fourth game of the Chad Hodson Classic saw the Fairfield Lady Lions make their home court appearance at Grandle Gymnasium, and they gained a non-conference win with a convincing 50-29 victory over the East Clinton Lady Astros, Saturday. 

Gaining the win in the Jan. 3 game, Fairfield held a 14-5 lead when the first frame concluded, as they began with the first points of the game off a basket from senior Rilee Quickle. FHS took a 3-0 lead when junior Vivian Henninger made a free throw, but East Clinton answered by tying the score with a 3-pointer from junior Sahara Tate with 4:48 on the first-quarter clock. 

After that basket, the Lady Lions came back with nine straight points and an 11-2 scoring run to end the quarter with a jumper from Henninger, three made free throws by sophomore Addison Cannon and a steal and layup from junior Isabelle Hale, and after a basket by ECHS, it was a jumper from Hale for a 14-5 lead. 

Fairfield opened the second quarter with back-to-back jumpers from freshman Landyn Hodson, and after East Clinton made the score 18-9, the Lady Lions came back with a free throw made by sophomore Paisley Stahlhut and a basket by Henninger for a 21-9 lead. 

ECHS came back with four straight points from Tate, but a jumper from Quickle left FHS with a 23-12 lead. The Lady Astros ended the second quarter with three straight points for a 23-15 halftime score. 

FHS outscored the Lady Astros 15-4 with points scored by Stahlhut, Hale, Quickle (two 3-pointers), freshman Brya Fauber, Henninger, Cannon and freshman Ruby Henninger, who made a two-point basket. 

The 12-point fourth quarter for Fairfield saw Hale sink a 3-pointer, Quickle score a two-point basket, Fauber score five points with three free throws and a two-point bucket and two points added off a basket by Vivian Henninger. 

Quickle led Fairfield with 12 points, finishing with three two-pointers and two 3-pointers. Hale ended the game with 11 points with a 3-pointer and four two-point buckets. 

Vivian Henninger ended the game with nine points from four two-point baskets and a free throw. The rest of Fairfield final scoring totals included: Fauber (6), Hodson (4), Cannon (4), Stahlhut (2) and Ruby Henninger (2). 

The Lady Lions’ team totals included three 3-pointers, 15 two-point baskets, and they went 11-of-22 from the free-throw line. 
East Clinton finished the game with Tate leading with 20 points, as she collected six two-point baskets, two 3-pointers, and she was 2-of-4 from the free-throw line. 

ECHS (1-9) other final scoring totals included: Kenzie Terrell (4), Graclynn Boggs (4) and Emily Arnold (1). The Lady Astros’ team totals were nine two-point baskets, two 3-pointers and they were 4-of-7 from the free-throw line. 

The loss drops ECHS to 1-9 overall. Fairfield improves to 7-3 overall. 

Next for Fairfield is a non-conference game on Monday, Jan. 5 at home against Bethel-Tate (4-6).
